Hi Ironside

Good news.  Cameron Norrie goes top 10 if he wins tonight.

Bad News.  He is playing Alcarez, who is surely reaches top 10 in the near future and stays there for years.

Think from Ruud down to Shapovalov there are a group of 6 players fighting for 3 top 10 places.  If Alcarez wins tonight, they will be fighting for just 2 in no time.

yeah was looking at that after the match last night, Norrie is looking good but tonight will be a test didn't Alcarez knock him out of US open in first round last year?

Raducanu can hold the baton of British number 1 until Hannah Klugman comes of age.

Norrie and Evans seeded.  Draper and Murray are both wild cards.  Not sure how Draper wangled one, but is good to see.

Raducanu said she was playing it a week or so ago and is seeded.  Watson is 2nd alternate, so should get in easily and I assume Dart tries to qualify as she is in the US already?

I guess there may be a couple of others, as there are a few Brits at University out there.  Should be a good selection anyway.

I am sure I read this earlier, but Broady is in qualifying, which I had forgotten.  Jay Clarke is in also.

Couldn't find the women's draw.

Just realised that Sinner and Hurkacz have lost a bunch of ranking points, so Norrie is unofficially in the top 10.

To stay there officially, he needs someone above him, or below Alcaraz, to win in Miami.  Fritz and Sinner can also do him by getting to the final if Norrie goes out early.

Hurkacz by Sinner in this last year which explains it.

Raducanu isn't far off top 10 either, just needs a good run in something like this.   I guess she could just benefit from others losing points like Norrie did as she hasn't any real points to defend until Wimbledon.

Of course, she will suffer massively from points loss at the US Open.  Swiatek has kicked on impressively from her similar breakthrough, and that is the sort of progress Raducanu should be hoping for.

That'll be no good for the muppets who were all salivating at his 'struggling to breathe' comments.

Sad to see her go, but am not really convinced it is a big shock.  She has left the game before and has spoken about her struggles.  It would be no real surprise to see Osaka follow her.

I wish her well and hope she finds something worthwhile and fulfilling to fill the gap.

Great article on it.   I'm sure she will go and play another sport to a super high standard because she can and she enjoys it.   Amazing human being.
