Nothing official, but a good thread on travel here.

Asked by a chap I know about the US, and he said that he thinks US will go green as soon as they open to us.

This guy very knowledgeable about US travel. Usually does a podcast/video on facebook

Nice one, thanks.

Will give him a follow.

I've just moved my flight to July 1st, but only because that's the first flight.

Think we'll know more in a few weeks once this G7 has been done and they actually get around a table.

yeah, all seems a bit pointless for countries where most adults are now at least partially vaccinated (maybe some exceptions for the likes of the Seychelles!).  I saw my local figures last week, and we are down to zero cases in the last 7 days in my local area (well it is less than 3, but below 3 they don't report numbers because of data protection, supposedly).

Something that probably isn't as widely publicised is that some countries have had negative excess deaths. because lockdowns etc have reduced deaths from the likes of the flu.

I can't find them all now, but as well as the ones you see above, I think New Zealand and Mauritius are included too.  Mauritius is pretty densely populated too (certainly more so than the Uk and the Seychelles).

I saw this earlier on Australia mortality.

https://twitter.com/KarenCutter4/status/1396770866499788800

Note how all respiratory deaths have fallen noticeably from the predicted levels.  It is often stated by the cranks that Covid deaths are just mislabelled repiratory deaths from other causes, but these figures show that these diseases have also fallen significantly even when there is little Covid.

Because they know most people are stupid/lazy, and will just swallow whatever they're told.

Hope that breathyser works well.

Should set the dogs to work too.

This is annoying me a bit.

We are going to see my mum next week for the first time in ages, and luckily as we aren't in these areas and neither is my mum.  I am all for being a bit cautious with these new variants, but none of these areas has had a massive surge in Covid cases and cases are still pretty low everywhere in the UK.  Surely just let people meet up for a while and wait for something more significant before issuing travel bans within the UK?

If people have done the right thing and taken the vaccine when eligible, and only booked UK holidays this year, then they should be rewarded for that?  To then lose another holiday/some more money because of today's situation within the UK then they should be pretty grumpy.

Turns out I am Keir Starmer.

Some of those replies are just weird.  You can call for lockdowns when Covid is out of control and also have some objections to controls when it isn't.  So many people seem to have picked a side and are sticking to it whatever the current evidence is.

I'm basically done with it now, bar being sensible.

They're just two groups of idiots arguing, and independent SAGE should just be banned from the internet.

Seems like a reaction to earlier criticism?

Battered for not locking down incoming flights from India fast enough, so now over react to this and enforce some bizarre local restrictions without telling the local MPs?

Yeah, think it is more or less over for this phase, and people need to know so they can relax a bit.

I reserve most of my contempt for the Covid deniers (Clare path really did retweet a post referring to it as a scamdemic only yesterday), but the people on the other side who have not adjusted to the current reality are nearly as bad.  My eldest is still having to wear a mask at school and perform twice weekly lateral flow tests and I am supposed to still wear a mask when picking up my youngest from outside the school when barely anyone else is around.  People just lose faith in all the messaging when some actions seem so out of proportion.  Lateral flow tests in schools are now supposedly at 25% of the level they should be, and though I think my daughter is still doing hers as requested, there is zero chance I am insisting she does them right now.  Hopefully it is only for one more week anyway, so no point in raising the issue with her.

If we start apporaching 100 deaths a day againg, we may need to change course, but until then carry on as you like.

Yeah, the learning experience should be to not do the mad thing next time and not to do an opposite mad thing.

There is almost a competition on who can be toughest. Nicola Sturgeon was on a few days ago banning people on travelling from Bolton to Scotland.  We have booked to go to Scotland, and so we have to get through whatever both ours and their bonkers rules may be.  We are stopping overnight on the way up and down, so going to have to dodge restrictions in four different areas (our home, our destination and two different ones on the way up).  Glad that there is no going back to local restrictions as they were only saying a couple of weeks ago.

May as well go f it and head out to the Seychelles.

Theyre all peas in a pod. No real leadership, theyve seen on balance that over caution is more popular and less party damaging short term than being under cautious. Probably against expectation theyve found British people on balance seem to really like being told exactly what to do rather than be advised and here we are. Stupid rules and as you allude to, a contest to see who can be the most idiotically tough on non threats.

I've just changed my flights to vegas, and I'm going as long as I can get in, even if I have to do the 10 days when I get back.

Honeymonster and Sleepy better get lively at this G7 and sort the fking border closure out, or I'm going to Cornwall.

No probs, him and Donal seem to be the most sensible. Paul Charles should be on the pier with his crystal ball..lol
We were due to go to USA today, cancelled a few weeks ago and currently re-booked for start of July
