Have you seen the "Please donate" message from Wikipedia?
I haven't donated but I use it constantly so I feel like I should bung them a couple of quid.
Don't try and stop me....

Just been to Tesco's with Mrs Red when right out of the blue she said, "What a lazy bastard you are".
I couldn't believe it. I almost fell out of the trolley.

Things that broke today.
Camper door handle snapped off in the frost.
I'm betting this won't be a fun repair.

Replacement door handle from Fiat £109.
Pattern replacement door handle from eBay £12.49.
What to do what to do....
My £12.49 replacement door handle arrived today, so I set about fitting it.
This task highlights the the difficulties we encounter doing things when we don't know what we're doing.

The first job was to remove the door card.
The door card is the panel that covers the inside of the door, in times gone by it was actually a simple cardboard cover, but these days they are intricately molded plastic and metal structures with fancy fabric covers and a mind boggling array of fasteners and electrical connectors.
All the attachment points are delicate and cleverly hidden, making them very difficult to find and very easy to break.
But, before I could start locating and breaking the door panel fasteners, I had to remove some of the furniture because this being a sliding door, when it was open the part that I needed to access was inaccessible.

When I finally exposed the door card I was disappointed to find that I had to split and dismantle the inner door handle.
Here's a handy tip for those who don't want to spend hours looking for teeny tiny lost screws amongst the stones. (been there, got enough t shirts to open a market stall) Remove all small screws with a magnet and transfer immediately to a magnetic tray. (Tray costs about £3 and has the added bonus of making you feel like a proper mechanic)

After a couple of hours I finally managed to get the door card off, only to discover that it was a completely pointless exercise because it didn't give me access to anything.

Not really Boo. It snapped through at a thin section of di-cast metal. It has to stand a fair bit of tugging and wrenching and a glue job would never be strong enough.

So, no access to anything from the inside, I could only conclude that everything had to be done from the outside.

See I had assumed that there was a nut on the other end of this bolt, accessible from the inside.
Now I realised that it's actually a shear-bolt, designed as a safety feature to be screwed in once, and tightened until the head snaps off, making it impossible to screw out.

quick question..
To get to this point,
a - how many cups of tea were consumed?
b- How much cake / bacon sarnies ?
c- as a guess how many swear words were used?

Thanks to Trev for the encouragement, and thanks to you for your questions Mr Shambo. Questions make it so much easier to write things.
I can actually answer the first two with complete accuracy.
I drank 1 tea in bed, I did get up and make it myself in my underpants though, and I made Mrs Red one too. (Just to be clear, I didn't actually make the tea in my underpants, I made it in the conventional way whilst wearing underpants)
I had a cup of tea with my breakfast, (eggs on toast) and a cup mid morning with a couple of Cadbury's chocolate mini-rolls, and another cup an hour or so later brought by Mrs Red because the weather was freezing cold and she felt sorry for me.
So, that's 4 teas, 2 cakes, and 0 bacon sandwiches.
As for the swearing, we'll when I thought about that question the answer surprised me and I think it needs a separate post.

Before I get into the swearing, can I just go back to the bacon sarnies.
Now I love bacon, but being a modern, trendy, clean living type of guy, I know I can't eat it all the time, but when I told you I had eggs on toast for breakfast, that wasn't entirely accurate.
What I had, in fact what I have about three times a week is this.
First I put two very thin slices of ham on to a plate. This is my bacon substitute. 'Fakeon' I call it.

I pop that into the microwave for about two minutes and at the same time I put two slices of seeded wholemeal into the toaster and fry two eggs over-easy in a pre heated pan that has been wiped with a smidgen of olive oil.

The microwave dings, the toast pops up, and the eggs are ready all at the same time. (If something is more than ten seconds late I'm very disappointed with myself)

Then I plate it all up and voilà - Fakeon & eggs on toast.
