Well, just checked in at Stanstead - no queue, plane on time, fast track through hoards of people waiting for x-ray and security and just been welcomed by pretty young lady in the MaxJet lounge....cup of tea on its way....

Perfect so far !!

Free internet access too !

Don't think anyone has picked up on this yet, but Maxjet are having a sale on flights to Las Vegas.

Claire and I are flying out on the 4th June - Virgin Atlantic price for cattle class return was £548 - Premium Economy price £1,159

Maxjet price for Business Class, 102 seater plane, 3 course meal, fly from Stansted etc is £598

Their sale ends on March 5th for any flights before September.

If you found this useful, ping it back up so others will see it....

When I wrote the above post I thought to myself "I wonder how long it will be until James posts a smart comment" - I even wrote down on a piece of paper what it would be, and I am sooo close....

You are SOOOOO predictable mate !!

Ariston is quite correct. Apparently Tiscali are reducing bandwiths to gaming companies at certain high useage times, ie peak evening.

Both I and Claire were playing on Ladbrokes from lunchtime yesterday through to about 8pm when suddenly Ladbrokes froze on both machines. I contacted Ladbrokes who immediately asked if our service provider was Tiscali (they said it to us, they didn't ask who it was) When I said "Yes" they said that that is the problem. They have been getting calls for the last few weeks from players who have had exactly the same problem.

Initially I argued with the Ladbrokes peep as they always try and blame outages on the ISP or Spain's routers or whatever . . .

While on the phone to Ladbrokes I contacted 'Tiscali Help Desk' (one joke is three words there!) and they initially denied that they are blocking sites. After about five minutes of discussion (using that word lightly) they said it does happen and I need to contact the gaming company and find out which ports they use. As I've said, I had Ladbrokes on the phone through this conversation and they immediately gave me the ports ( 1969 to 2002 if anyone needs them) Tiscali said they would clear these ports over the next three to four days - not much good when you happen to be on a final table . . . .

They are obviously not doing this to everyone, I wonder if its because we were connected to Ladbrokes all day - but IT DOES HAPPEN - and of course it WILL happen at a cruical point !

While I couldn't get into Ladbrokes, I tried all the other poker companies that I have on my desktop (roughly 12) and couldn't connect to any of them, but all other non-gaming sites were ok.

If anyone had said this to me the day before yesterday I would say there is probably something wrong with their computer or connection, as an ISP wouldn't block certain traffic (unless requested to do so - ie family block etc) but it did happen, they admitted it to me (eventually) and hopefully they will be able to remove the block in the next few days.

This only happens at peak times - my connection to all sites this morning is perfect. At the end of the day, if you are using Tiscali, playing poker in the evenings, it might be worth giving them a call and making sure that the ports are left open - because you know what will happen - it won't be when you are raising 30p into a 30p pot !

These are great aren't they !

They spend all that time writing out an long email which they send to thousands, then use a Yahoo email address !!  Quality !

Congratulations, you may as well send them your bank details so they can pay the money straight in, saves them asking for it in the next mail.... (Oh, and send them a few thousand so they can process your claim immediately !)

On a serious note, if a company send out say 500,000 of these emails, how many people do you think actually reply - 5% - 2% - 1% - 0.0001% Huh???

That's what we initially thought we had to do - went off searching for disc's and things, then did a quick search on Norton and Symantec which resulted in nothing - then did the simple search on google and found the solution.

The comp is working fine now and we have performed many many tests to make sure there isn't anything now left....

The condom - excellent idea - maybe you should talk to microsoft !! hehe

Question for a teckie:-

When you go to a web address, lets say you clicked on the $30,000,000 dodgy BBC web address that was on Ladbrokes, can that site automaticly download a virus or do you have to physically click on a link on that page to receive it ?

In other words, if you typed in a web address into the Explorer bar at the top of Internet Explorer, could that page automaticly download a virus ?

The common sense answer is YES - but think about it, surely when you load a web page thats all you're doing, not physically downloading a file unless you click on a link which is a "downloadable file" ....

I ask this in relation to someones post earlier that they went to the web address, realised that it probably is dodgy and quickly closed the window. If the site was dodgy then surely the .exe (virus) file wouldn't stop downloading just because you closed the window ?

By the way, there is a spate of advertising thingies going on at the moment where your normal windows screen is replaced by a blue screen (still with icons) and a note in the middle saying that your computer has been infected. It also tells you your IP address (which is incorrect) and the system you are using (easily got!) Also it says click on the following link to find out how to stop the problem. This sends you to a "spyware" advertising page enticing people to order a product.

If you get this, which lots of people apparently have, copy the first line of the message into google or yahoo search and there are many sites that will delete it for you...  It is NOT a virus, just a nasty advertising ploy....

Congratulations Maria on the well deserved first place in the semi final - you played spectacularly and are clearly a big name for the future - starting now !!

Just to let you know, Claire finished 2nd in the Grand Final - her game actually upped about 10 gears and played out of her skin - she went into the heads up with a 2.5-1 chip disadvantage, but eventually lost against a 12 outer on the river which would of put her slight chip leader.

Anyway, congratulations on the purse and look forward to sharing a few more bottles of champagne in the future.
