I don't know why Liverpool would want to convince Torres to stay if he wants to go. I've said before that the problem at Liverpool is too many players lacking the commitment for the club. You can't deny Torres is world class but I'd prefer a committed Suarez than a couldn't care less Torres any day of the week. There is no doubt his injuries, his negative demeanour and his lack of goals have contributed to the club's current slump so £50m sounds like an attractive prospect. I think Liverpool have paid a touch over the odds for Suarez because they know Torres wont be around come Tuesday.
A commited Suarez?
I'll see that before I believe it.

Some decent signings have been made so you'd hope the club can convince him that they are going to invest heavily (like the suarez deal) and that might convince him to stay...but they really have to win somethign as he's too good to play for a club that's not in the running for anything.
TBF to Torres, he's been hanging around for years waiting on Liverpool competing for stuff so you can't blame him for wanting to leave.
I can see why fans will be annoyed though. Three weeks ago the window was open. Wed signed no one and not won a game under Dalglish. He says he's happy and wants to stay.
Now we're playing well, winning games and have just made a record signing and he wants out to our rivals when we know historically he has really understood the club.
It smells of bad advice. Interesting that him and Suarez have the same agent.

Well if Liverpool are gonna keep buying players who are known to lack commitment then gg their whole ridic transfer policy.
I think Rooney wanted to stay and got bad advice. As good as Tevez is he can gtfo imo with his constant threats to quit football. Worse is Balotelli I mean he was talking about going to AC like a week after he arrived at Citeh.

I don't know if you've noticed all the gold and green scarves around Old Trafford? Uncertainty. In comparison you've stated Henry has a clear intention and commitment to grow the club steadily and sensibly. Certainty. If you can't see the difference between the ownership and why a player would question the future strategy of the owners at Old Trafford as opposed to those at Liverpool then ok.

Weird one. End of season would suit most if he has decided to leave so tell the club you want to leave but no need for a transfer request at this stage.

3.5 years ago he decided to come to Luverpool on 80k per week instead of 3 other clubs where he'd have been the highest paid player in the world.
For me it's the one thing it's not about. Although my brother who has better sources than most agrees with you.
I'm interested to see The Echo saying the reques was before the Suarez deal was announced. I'll bet that's why we basically doubled our offer.

If you can't see that agents, in this case involved in both transfers, can give bad advice (as Rooney's did, Man U now still unbeaten etc) then you're never going to be convinced of anything but your own bitter views. I'll stop wasting my time on a hater.

I don't think insisting uncommitted players shouldn't be playing for Liverpool is hating Liverpool but w/e you reckon. The power of an agent to destabilise a player under the Glaziers ownership is much greater than under Henry. Not sure why you don't see that and why you think that observation is bitter. It is clear as day Liverpool is moving forward now under new owners and with Dalglish back at the helm. So Liverpool's future isn't up in the air to question. Anyway, you said yourself Torres is smarting over past broken promises under the previous regime. Asking questions about the future and being pissed about the past are different. But I will say they are exactly the same if it makes you happy.

Don't put words in my mouth. I haven't said they're the same and I appreciate that this situation is possibly different.
You cannot appreciate that just maybe you aren't right and they could both be down to agent influence.

Nah, I think Liverpool fans want it to be agent influence because they love Torres and want it to be the case that he's had his head turned. The fact you say Torres isn't motivated by money, he's got much longer on his contract than Rooney had, and the ownership is much more certain makes me conclude agent influence is far less likely. I suppose I could be wrong. But I think it's much more likely that Torres just doesn't want to play for Liverpool anymore and I think that's been clear from his body language all season.

It is a funny thing how certain sets of fans seem to want their players to have a really strong bond with the club, the area etc.
I'm happy to accept that the world has changed, they're all mercenaries and will always move on for the right offer - all that can reasonably be expected is that while they are still being paid by a club they put their shift in.
That's why it's easy to love Fabregas, although he's pretty intent on leaving, and was easy to dislike Adebayor. But I've never felt the need to think that Fabregas loves the club, loves the area/the fans - really gives a monkey about the 20-30 year future of the club etc. I'm just happy for him to excel in the here and now when he goes out to play
