I think people are defending someone who is absolute pond life on the pitch, match after match after match, he is the quintessential foreign cheat. Everything I hate in football shines bright through Suarez, arrogance, lack of humility, diving, constantly berating the refs, gesturing at players, a racist and now someone who bites others on the pitch. Obviously something needs to be done because the poor chap does not seem to learn from his past mistakes....

If the FA did not give him a lengthy ban it would send out all the wrong message.

Reasoning bad tackles or previous misdemeanors from others have gotten alot less length bans is simply not relevent.  Not one single person can say he didn't mean to bite him, has he spoken about why he did it? has he tried to reason with himself and let people know there are real problems with his personality? Lolpool coming out saying the ban is very severe is again a PA disaster, if ever there was a time to keep stum and accept the dose of medicine that was handed out is now.

lol so hard at people saying he was being hassled all game and this, that had happened before.

He tried to bite someone ffs, fuk off from our game we dont want you.

Excellent post.

Pretty surprised Liverpool supporters are:

1. Defending/supporting the scumbag

2. Even questioning the length of the ban. 10 games seems on the light side to me.

All of this

When Joey Barton arrived at Loftus Road, I sighed and was disappointed but decided to give him a chance.

He let the club down once, we gave another chance.

He let us down again, he was shipped out.

Suarez is 100000000000 times better player than Barton, is this why he gets so many chances?

I'd want him out of my club.

I was going to post about what pride Liverpool fans put in their shirt and essentially how badly Suarez treats that honour.

But then I was reminded of this quote from our left back, Benny Assou-Ekotto:

I have never bought into the hypocrisy of football but perhaps I’m more strident in my views now. I’m lucky and appreciate what I have, but football is just a job, a means to an end... there are more important things in life than kicking a ball around... Yes, I play for the money but then doesn’t everybody who gets up in the morning and goes to work? They do it to provide for their family. It infuriates me when footballers go on about playing for the shirt. I think they should be held accountable for it when they kiss the badge and six months later clear off for a better pay day

I read an interview with Assou_Ekkotto a couple of years ago. Seemed like a top bloke then and this reinforces my opinion.

The problem is circa 99% of footballers are stupid, probably don't even understand the concept of hypocrisy.

For every one Assou-Ekotto there's 100 Joey Barton, Keiron Dyer and Lee Bowyer's.

The difference between Suarez and Barton is the latter went around punching people in the streets and attacking youth players in the locker room. All Suarez's offences have been during games so I don't think it's fair to label him a scumbag or talk about his character in the same light. I think he plays football on the edge and in some ways I admire players like that. Cantona went into that zone and I actually thought his kung fu kick was brilliant entertainment, sorry. Sometimes this type of player can step over the line and they must either hold their hands up and face the consequences or change their behaviour.

That said the way Liverpool have handled Suarez since he arrived is a mystery to me. Camel is quite right that if this was a fringe player he would be marched straight out the door, so Peter Costa can't lament inconsistency in the FA when the whole business of football is massively inconsistent. The priority for the FA here is to show kids learning the game that biting your opponent is not acceptable, so a 10 game ban is more than fair to that end. Liverpool thinking they are picked on and it's just not fair is senseless and embarrassing. They instantly fined Suarez and said he would like the money to go to Hillsborough support which was just a PR stunt, it wasn't serious contemplation of the implications. I wonder if I bit somebody at work I would just get fined and my employer would empower me to choose where the money went? And of course don't forget BR said he would "have a word" with Suarez.

Have Liverpool been working on his behaviour since he arrived with these proven traits? If they have then he has let them down badly and should be shipped out. If they haven't they have been neglectful. Yet all they can do is moan about FA punishments and wear t-shirts. I prob agree with that Ekkotto quote because I used to think there was a mystique about pulling on the Liverpool shirt and running out at Anfield, but sadly that just isn't the case. Suarez seems to be bigger than the club and I wonder how many times is this guy going to let his team down before enough is enough?

Football is massively inconsonsistant because of the FA - and that should not be the case - certainly not an excuse for ther FA or anyone else to use. Should football or anything else not be about putting right what is wrong,? Should the FA not be looking to change it instead of ensuring it's growth?  As for the FA - I thought their job was to run our game with fainess and inergrity above all esle? What did they show the kids when they found Suarez guilty of racisn despite no clear evidence and just based on balance of probability and how they treated Terry when it was clear what was said? I know what it taught it me about the FA and our game. So the last thing I need from them is to teach my kids.

My son plays U8 football, and week in, week out, I see kids diving and rolling round like they've been shot, arguing with refs, flapping their arms around in exasperation at decisions and event the odd double footed slide tackle. (hardly any of this from my lads team, who are a lovely bunch).

It's undisputable that these kids DO copy what they see the professionals do.
Every year all the kids and adults are given the same talk on the Respect campaign. We watch the Ray Winston adverts and are reminded that the focus is on fun, personal growth, sportmanship, etc. It would have been very hypocritical for the FA not to have come down on Suarez hard for this.
10 games is the bottom end of what I'd be happy with.

oh, and lol@ only at 'bite on the arm, no blood drawn' type comments. Not many things hurt as much as being bitten by a grown man (especially not by those gnashers, I imagine).
In the very old days of the UFC, when it was NO RULES! and fighters were punching bare knuckle, kicking with shoes on, knees, elbows and headbutts to any target, legal groin strikes, etc, it was actually NO RULES...except biting and gouging. If it's too viscious for UFC 1, it's certainly got no place on a football field Smiley

Don't think you can do leg-breaking tackles in UFC either?

First bite 7 games.

Second bite 10 games.

Looks like admirable consistency to me.

From the Daily Fail, so accuracy yet to be determined:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2314542/Luis-Suarez-return-competitive-action-Europa-League-July-Liverpools-placing-UEFA-fair-play-table.html

As the ban is from the FA, it only counts for domestic footy.  So he'd be available for the Europa League qualifiers but not the first 6 league games of next season.

Out of interest for those who think 10 games is harsh, what do you think his punishment should be if he was caught biting for a 3rd time?

At least a billion games.
