Gerrard signing has got the fans excited for next season. The next bit of news, less so...
http://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/latest-news/139719-downing-i-m-here-to-stay
the thing with downing is i just cant see a viable transfer for him. who would want him enough to pay a transfer fee to keep liverpool happy and a contract large enough to keep downing happy.

Liverpool racked up 61 points last season (25/36) split over the season.
Sky bet have the over/under split for this coming season at 67.5. Looks like 70 points plus is going to be needed to champions league.
Only 1 win against the other members of the top 8 was our downfall last year. 1 win 7 draws 6 defeats.10/42 Whereas against the bottom 5 we collected 24/30 points 7 wins and 3 draws. Against the middle block of teams we had 8 wins 3 draws and 3 defeats. 27/42

Rodgers adamant that Luis Suarez won't be leaving this summer - 5/2 he stays at LFC 7/4 to join Madrid, 3/1 Arsenal
http://www.oddschecker.com/football/football-specials/luis-suarez/club-after-summer-transfer-window
What is the word on where he will be at the end of August?
I am sure there must be huge value in this market, but I know not what

First thoughts he'll probably end up in Madrid. They didn't sign Cavani or Tevez. What they've spent so far is irrelevant. However I'd struggle to back this. The problem is they're doing the typical RM thing, wait until late on to drive down the price. This won't work for them as all the power is with Liverpool. In 12 months he'll still have 2 years left on his contract. Liverpool don't need the money to continue their recruitment. Madrid's best chance is to bid large soon. If not he stays.
This is not unlike fake Ronaldo going to Madrid. Real played it wrong and paid 80m the following summer.

I'm proper split on this.
Despite all the mis- quotes, media spun statements it is still very clear he wants out, so half of me says go then we are bigger than you, and we all move on. Why would you want to keep a player that has made it very clear he wants out!?
Then the other half says, he is in the top 3-5 strikers in the world, and we need that quality to progress, and we can't afford to lose the quality that we do have.
Massive qudos if BR gets his way.

Massive difference here between a grateful ronaldo and a self centred Suarez. I'd really not want a player like Suarez hanging around for a year, bringing down morale and causing discord in the camp.
Get the £ early and spend it wisely is your best bet IMO! I think there is going to be great opportunities to pick up a "number 2" striker who wants a lead role in a world cup year!

Same situation as Rooney's?

Similar yes, but I think Rooney would be less disruptive on the team as a whole if he stayed. But I'm more than happy he goes if he can't give his all to united. Think I said on the utd thread I'd prefer he went abroad.

If Suarez wants CL football etc he wont be a disruptive influence if he stays. He will be a pro in training and during matches cos if he sulks he wont get in the team regularly or perform to his full potential, then his CL ambitions go down the toilet. I think these days with so much $$ in the game the stroppy top level pro footballer is much rarer because you're only shooting yourself in the foot. Don't think Liverpool have anything to lose by not selling if the price isn't right.

He's better than Carroll so has to be at least £50m
