Not sure about this I think he's a decent player no more imo but Rodgers is totally convinced he's the man to sort out back four and has chased him for for two summers I trust he's right

Just been having a look at our squad and it certainly looks a lot stronger now.Looks to be cover for all positions.Should be no complaints about it this season, certainly looks to have the quality to fight on multiple campaigns , moreso if we purchase a top class striker.
First X1 ? 2ND X1 ? 3RD X1?
Mignolet Reina Jones
Johnson Toure Robinson
Enrique Flanagan Smith
Lovren Agger Coates
Skrtel Sakho Kelly
Gerrard Lucas Coady
Henderson Can Allen
Sterling Coutinho Peterson
Markovic Ibe Assaidi
Lallana Suso Adorjan
Sturridge Lambert Borini
Add in the youngsters ( Rossiter , Sinclair ,Teixeira , Stewart , Illori , Yesil , Mclaughlin) who may get a run out in the early rounds of the cups , and i feel optomistic about the future.

Honestly George, haven't a facking clue! Literally could finish 1st or 8th IMO! I'd be happy with top 4 myself, deffo don't feel we need to challenge for the title just because of last year, that was so far above expectation that it will be tough to repeat again especially without Suarez, we have a young promising squad and manager, hopefully it goes well.!
Edit : what about Utd, will Van Gaal wave a magic wand or will he alienate half the squad?!!

I really don't know George.
Our defence has to improve from last year , you just cannot concede the goals we did and win anything. The only reason we got so close was that we had a genius up front who got us out of the shit more than once.
The rest of the team has got to contribute more goals this year.
We have to keep Gerrard , Henderson and Sturridge fit all season .(We ran good last year with injuries)
The new players have to start well , confidence is so important.
I would be happy with top four in the league , quarter finals in Champions league and winning FA Cup or League Cup(or whatever it's called these days).

Ask Spurs how losing your only superstar and 'boosting the squad depth' helps improve your team. Bottom line is it doesn't. You need superstars to win titles and cups and you don't have any anymore.

It's a little different. Spurs bought an almost new 1st 11 and tried to fit them in. None of the players Spurs bought performed to the standard required bar Eriksen.
Lallana and Lovren are both Prem proven and will fit in easier than the Spurs lads did. The other additions can be eased in.
The only thing I think Pool should be looking for is a top 4 place.
If Chelsea/City are nailed on there, it leaves 2 from 3 with Pool/Arse/Utd all fairly equal and maaaaybe Spurs/Everton making a challenge.
I personally think Arsenal will probably be the 3rd team. So you've realistically got Pool/United for the 4th. United have their own rebuilding going on and Van Gaal is a notorious slow starter so I think it'll be close.

Agreed but superstars in any team sports win titles generally. When you lose your superstar you are less likely to win/improve no matter how much deeper you squad becomes.

If new signings are better than your existing players then it boosts the squad depth AND improves your team obviously.Spurs bought players that ended up being backup players, whereas i would expect three of our signings to go straight into the first team.
You do not need superstars to win titles and cups (obviously it helps) Wigan FAcup , Portsmouth two examples

Pool can afford to regress slightly from last year and still get 4th.
Good teams with good players throughout the team win titles. Who was
the
superstar in the Spanish team that won the WC and EC?
You could argue all day what "superstar" means. If Pool win the league and Sturridge is top scorer, maybe he'll be a "superstar"? In any case, superstars often become so, after the event, because of the winning of titles.
Anyway, pointless argument. Everyone knows Pool have lost a very good player that will be impossible to replace, like for like. All they can do is improve the 1st 11 as much as possible whilst also improving the squad. I think they will do a better job in that than Spurs.
I still think they are likely 5th in the league but it'll be close.
