Why did we just accept it? It was nothing short of gross.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm always weary of speaking my mind on such issues as I was kind of riduculed once for being offended by something Smiley  The way I see it is if the majority find something out of line, then someone else will say something.  Pretty pussy like of me I suppose, but I don't like to rock the boat.

as for the comment about Will Smith, I didn't see it, but am horrified that someone on blonde would say such things.  Please tell me this wasn't an established member of the forum?

It was my understanding that the person in question said they were not aware of the incident when the joke was made?

To what incident are you referring? The sledging accident?

yeah

amazing coincidence that the age and gender of the deceased was spot on considering the poster was unaware of the incident

If they'd copied and pasted the joke from email, for example, that would be entirely possible.

Exactly, you'd rather give someone the benefit of the doubt about something that inappropriately tacky, i would anyway.

Well it's most out of character for the Poster to make such a comment, so if it was an incredible coincidence, I accept your point, & apologise to the Poster for suggesting otherwise.

But I spoke to 6 or 7 who ALL took it as referring directly to the death of the girl - but the thread continued as if nothing had happened, everybody telling jokes, & I sat & looked at it, thoroughly ashamed of this Forum for it's insensitivity.

It's so regular now, that nobody cares any more.

Yours respectfully,
Grumpy Old Fart.

gender not a coincidence as the joke only works if it's a female

I actually thought the joke was quite funny but then I had no idea there had been a genuine accident until maureen posted her reply

it's here flushy

I have to be honest , and some people may disagree with me here, I obviously hate racist stuff like that. However, I do cringe when I hear black people using the 'N' word, I suppose mostly on telly/films etc. I think if you want to set a standard, you need to set an example to everyone else and IMO that word is either acceptable or not and to stamp it out it just shouldn't be used at all. I think when you hear it all the time in music/telly it makes the word part of normal language and doesn't do the black community any favours at all to discourage racist language.

maybe people just feel more comfortable with conveying their displeasure to you guys as opposed to posting it on open forum, seems to be more and more the way people like to handle things these days which is kinda sad as it detracts from the community spirit of blonde.

"detract" might not be the correct word but put it this way, people complain more and more behind the scenes it isnt doing any favours to affirming the ethos of blonde is it? it's indicative of completely the opposite of what blonde should and did stand for that people would want to demonstate there distaste in such a covertly reticent way.

Sorry if i have caused unrest. But all I did was express distaste on a post. Normally if I am not interested in a thread I do not bother reading it so no need to post a negative response on it. But a joke thread, I thought that would lighten the load so to speak, NO it just made light of what can only be described as a families worst nightmare.

I stand by my guns and repeat Sick IMHO.

you're either black and use it as a term of endearment or not and use it as one of derogatory oppression, i think it's pretty well established by now in it's semantic context which is which.

(this is of course unless you're Quentin Tarantino)

you seem to have completely misunderstood my post maureen. I only mention you as when I read your post I didn't really understand why you were saying it was sick but it made me think that maybe something had actually happened. a quick google later and I realised that, yes, the joke was sick. you drew my attention to it, I'm not suggesting that doing that was a bad thing, quite the opposite in fact

I think we all agree it was "sick".

My point is "sick" stuff gets Posted, (even if, in this case, there is some doubt that the Poster knew of the accident) but it sorta gets shrugged off. Why, where's the noise?

Jade Goody is another case in point. I fly no flag for her at all, but Christ, she's dying of cancer, & she's become on object of derision. Surely a time comes when human decency says "hold up, this is off limits"?
