This one has always been a personal fave of mine
There are so many "favs" in their catalogue, Barry.
It might just be me, but I know all the lyrics of just about every Beatles song, too, & I can't say that about any other band.
Thought they may have been before your time though, what are you, 50, 52?
I'm 33. My musical era was when Oasis were popular and thus everyone my age was
pretending
to like the Beatles because Oasis told them to. Never consider myself a fan of the Beatles, however pretty much every song of theirs I hear played I want to hear till the end. I think they are so ingrained into the fabric of music now you take them for granted.
Thing I find most interesting about them is they spent their pre-fame years playing 11 hour sets, 7 days a week in Germany. People think they were an overnight sensation but they actually had a lifetime of musical experience by the time 'made it'.
The Beatles museum in Liverpool is rubbish though.

33?
Really?
Good grief, I had you as 50 or 52, though looking well for your age.

No I'm one of the yoof, a young lady gave me a flyer for a nightclub the other day seemingly with no hint of sarcasm.

I'm close, very close, to being 59 and The Beatles and The Rolling Stones were both part of my youth. In my formative years we were often asked "Beatles, or Stones?" and I think I was a rarity in saying "both".
Both live on through the power of their songwriting, their craft, their legend, yet somehow whilst The Beatles imploded The Stones retain the capacity to perform and produce new(ish) material.
Which was greater?
The Fab Four had a bigger influence on what followed them, The Stones the longer career.
The Fab Four wrote songs that have been covered by thousands, The Stones still fill stadia at exorbitant prices performing songs that have stood the test of time in something very close to their original arrangements.
Views?
Oh, and speaking of the influence of 60s bands, don't ignore either The Kinks, or The Who.

Yes, you HAD to be one or the other - never both.
We also HAD to be a Mod or a Rocker.
The Kinks, for me, not so much, but yes, The Who were another band who changed the way we lived our lives, as they went around smashing up their guitars on stage (never understood that) & trashing hotel rooms as a badge of rebellion.

If I fell in love with you,
Would you promise to be true
and help me understand
'cos I've been in love before
and I want it to be more
than just holding hands
Being a fan of both was, to my mind, valid and reasonable
as was being a scooter rider but liking rock music
buying Marvin Gaye songs one week and Led Zeppelin or Cream the next
My Desert Island Discs Beatles song

Thread just got insanely cool.
Beatles over Stones every time for me. Never been a huge Stones fan.
Loving this chat

Big fan of both.
Large parts of my childhood were spent playing on a retro pinball machine in my mate's garage. In the corner was a record player and we'd play to a soundtrack of Hendrix, Led Zep, The Beatles, The Stones, The Who and The Cure. Very happy memories indeed.
On 29th June this year I celebrate my birthday at Glastonbury with, among others, the aforementioned friend. If the Stones do indeed headline as rumoured, it will be one of the all-time great days

2% please
Does this mean you will not be playing the main event?
2% booked with PLEASURE. I shall need to change my sig again. Thank you Keith.
Main Event? I have not given any thought to it, to be honest. I would probably be available to play it, but I really think I am "the value" in Hold Em these days. I assume you are alluding to the incredible staking thread which Greeky started last year as to myself, & maybe Tom, too, playing the WSOP Main. Fair bit of water has passed under the blonde bridge since then, some of it rather muddy...
Put up a staking thread, it would sell out within 24 hours.
And you and Tom would have an absolute ball.
You can't put it off forever, because eventually it will never happen.
What he said.
For goodness sake, what are you doing up at 3am, Ray?
Not what you think
Normal day I go to sleep around 4am, but anyways, stop diverting the situation and win the Main already.

Stones to play Glastonbury is a perennial Glasto rumour so don't get your hopes up too much.
Will this be your first trip to Worthy Farm?
Camping or Glamping?

Jeez, I love The Cure.
I used to be Robert Smith in a Cure Tribute Band.

My sister was a die-hard Cure fan, so I was forced into liking them too.
Personal fave
Though they always make me think of this
Is this still Tikay's thread?
