how do you think this sort of thing looks to non-regs when they sit in a game and see local regs softplaying each other?

Lol, give me a little credit Gatters! It would never be done in a game involving non-regs. And as I stated in both Diary entries, it was a bunch of friends, all grown-ups, & we were heads up on both occasions.
The time to worry is in Tourneys, against an "open" field, when well-known players do it. And they do - all the time. Everyone who has played the circuit knows who does it. That's entirely different.

Poor Tom, with his Yorkshire accent, thinks that "wasp" contains an "a".
He pronounces it so cutely - he calls them "wasssps".
It's a wonder to me how those from non-English speaking countries cope with the the English language.
How do they suss the different emphasis between, say, plough & cough? And then cough & cow. Or a dog's "lead" or the metal lead? Or the future & past tenses of "read"?

Yes - I'm not quite as dumb as some might think. I would not do it to or with you, nor would I expect you to do it to me.
For some of us, poker is a means of enjoyment, win or lose, almost a social occasion. If a play a Tourney, or a cash-game against "regular" guys, I play it straight. Badly, too, but straight.
This is the problem with a frank & honest Diary. Things get twisted. But I would prefer to give both you & Gatters credit for knowing I'd only do it when the situation is right.

if I went to a venue where I didn't know the players, put my name on the list for the dc game, wandered over to watch a few hands while I was waiting and saw the locals softplay each other I would not then sit in that game
just because you know everyone at the table doesn't mean you know everyone watching
hope none of the shrewdies are reading. the thought of softplaying a mate instead of trying to bust them for their net worth would have them turning in their metaphorical graves

Nice one Tanky.
What a task it must be to learn English!
I've got nothing but admiration for those who come to the UK & master our language, as most do. I could never go abroad & do that.

Sigh. It was 3am & 5am respectively, the room was deserted except for us. We were even self-dealing, the Dealers had gone home.
It's a worry to me, though, if the Shrewdies disapprove.

An Omaha hand came up, it was 6 card Hi-Low, but effectively high Only.
I flopped the abs cocoanuts on this flop.....
I had no clubs, & no other extensions, it was dangler-city.
Before it got to me it went "all-in" 3 times, & it was my entire stack - about £800 at the time (began with £300) - to Call.
What is the correct play here?
instamuck without a seconds thought
what are your thoughts on the 6 card h/l hand when the flop came
You ARE remarkably well-informed Jim!
What can I say? I had the dream hand, something like (not exact, as I forget now) A-2-6-7-8-9, with nut clubs.
There were 3 side-pots & the main pot, two of which were quartered. It was very complicated sorting out the Pot. G-Man (aka Golden Shower) was dealing, so while they were sorting it out, I went outside & had a smoke. I returned 10 minutes later, & they were still sorting the Pots!
I'm not sure, but I think I cleared about £1k in that coup. I left a "nice" drink for the Dealer, plan being that nobody else needed to tip the Dealer for the rest of the night.
Later, & still on a heater, I had the absolute nuts (Tens full) in a Hi-Only game & my heads-up oppo looked like he was gonna pot it for his case money. I flicked up the 10 because I did not want him doing more money. I know that's wrong wrong wrong, but it was just a bunch pf mates having a good time, & I'd won more than enough for one night.
It's ok, you don't need to tell me I'm a daft soft sod. I know.
The volatility in DC is so big I really ought not to play it, but it is rather fun I do think. I'm afraid I coolered Lalit, as well.
Tony, In that game do you think that you would get someone playing soft against you if you were in schtuk one day?
Yes - 100% Phil. In fact it happened 2 weeks back, & I think I Diaried it.
On that occasion, I lost my first pull-up of £300, pulled up anotherr £300, & said "this is it guys, when I lose this, I'm outa here".
I walked the nut-house into a straight flush, & Asif, my oppo, told me not to call, "you are losing, 100%, please don't Call".
I called anyway, & lost, & then Asif paid everyone's Table Charges for the rest of the night.
It's hard to explain these things. You either understand them, or you don't. The rights & wrongs of it are not relevant. It's a game, we are playing fior fun. I can understand, of course, why a guy up to his neck in make-up would not do it.
I have arrived at a very comfy place in poker, though I got there the hard way. Don't tell a soul, Phil, but I actually find the game rather fun by playing within my means, & with decent people.
I am glad you did the guy a favour then mate, poker isnt all about winning and losing figs is it.

To some of the "unnatural" folk like me, no. It's about a relaxing recreation. In which I use - exclusively - my own money, & risk what I feel I am able to afford. That in itself almost makes me eccentric. We all have our own moral codes, & I'm quite comfortable with mine insofar as it relates to poker.
When are you due to be a Dad again, & how old is the Mark 1 Model now?

Our due date is Feb 9th and Connor is now 28 months old and learning so much every day.You won't find this in the 'good parenting handbook' but I have had to teach him to say 'what a wally' yesterday as I was watching a horse I had a decent bet on get beat a short head and muttered a little too loudly' what a w***
' as the jockey made up 8 lengths after the last fence.
Connor turned around and said' Yes daddy, what a w***
' so 'what a wally' seemed the safer option.
My bad.

28 months? Never! Are you sure?
Connor Quayle - I like that. He'll grow up to be famous.
Many famous or iconic people are given a name that is "just so". Stirling Moss, Lester Piggott, Wayne Rooney, Bjorn Borg, John Surtees.
Connor Quayle will be famous.

I don't see this as anything about being a recreational player or caring about the money. It is about playing the game straight up and not soft playing people who you consider to be your "friends".
I believe it is against the spirit and probably the rules (if we had a decent set of rules) of the game and is a pretty poor example for less experienced players. Live poker is already full of this kind of bs, without the decent upstanding members of the community engaging in it.
If you did this on an online site you would probably be banned or at least given a warning and correctly so imo.
