Today's first job is to puff the £200-er tonight. It's the bigggest scheduled Tourney over there, & has a cap of 50, & needs 40 to cover the guarantee. It has 20 at the mo, so, working with the Team, job # 1 is to get the guarantee covered, job # 2 is to get it to max out.
That involves bit of this & that, & I'll prob chat with a few of the high-rollers during the day & do a job on them.
The sidebar to this is that I then do the TV Show tonight which covers that Tourney. In these situations, I get to do a much better job of the commentary & analysis, as I can drop in oddbits of info that are unique. And doing the commentary & "colour" on a £200 Tourney is as good as it ever gets for me.
Also on today's list are the bits I failed to do yesterday, groan. I HATE failing, it drives me bonkers.
I need to get on twitter & FB today, too, I was absent yesterday totally, I just could not juggle all the balls. Twitter went MAD yesterday with that tennis match, which I watched a good bit of whilst playing Online. Awesome!
Too much SP puff/spam in my Diary? Maybe, in fact almost certainly, but that's part of my problem & dilemma. It's my life now, I MUST succeed in the job, & I live & love it 24/7. And they pay me a lot, such that I feel I cannot let them down. So that partly explains why I am a bit uncomfy on here, talking about SP this & SP that. I need to get the balance better.
Sometimes it's awkward to find that comfy spot in the bed.

Why is there a cap of 50 runners, is it just a logistical thing with the length of the show?

Yes.
Any longer & we miss the ending, & it's specifically designed to accommodate the Sky Sports schedules, as it's (usually) simulcast on Sky Sports 2. And you do NOT mess with Sky Sports, scheduling things which are not likely to end on time would be a BIG no-no.
The simulcast in itself helps to attract runners, too, peeps DO want to see their play on Telly. Not so sure they enjoy my clumsy & nitty analysis, but there you go, they can always ogle Sarah.

Running good.
Yesterday I did the TV work with this guy - Rich Orford. He's done the same diet trick as me, & has shed about 3 stones. I like him a lot, very much indeed, & I think he's exceptionally talented & gifted in front of a TV camera. Behind it, he's insecure & a fretter, & a top top bloke. He's having a torrid time in his personal life right now. (it's no secret, or I would not mention it). What began as an "amicable" divorce has turned ugly, & it's that thing when kids are involved, it becomes very awkward. He's lost just about everything, & in a way, as long as he retains access to the kids (which is not disputed or threatened) he'll be OK. But he's in a bad place, & now of all times he needs a friend, & a bit of tlc. I hope he'll emerge from it all mentally unscathed, it's so sad to see peeps going through life unhappily, it's such a waste.
Sorry to hear that. Only met him a handful of times, but he always has time for people and seems like a really genuine bloke. Hope it all works out well.

I was 2-Tabling Hi-Lo late last night, which in itelf I find very relaxing & therapautic.
What is not relaxing though, is trying to field all the chat & questions, which is very much part of the job. The tables pop up & down "mid-typing", & it's incredibly awkward & stressful, miss just one reply & it's construed as a snub.
And suddenly, when & where least expected, some shit hit the blonde fan, just like that. One mo all sweetness & light, then BANG, it exploded.
So, in the middle of that 2-tabling & chatting, I needed to make some urgent phone calls, which, in fact, worked very well. By the time I got back to the inflamed thread, Tighty had worked his Mod-Magic trick, & peace was restored. The man is quite extraordinary.
1) It's amazing how a smouldering fire can come back to life so quickly when a can of petrol is thrown on it.
2) Never under-estimate what a job those Mods, Tighty most especially, do. This was late last night, but Tighty was on it in a nana-trice, & got the job done. I do actually think some folks - the brighter ones - are starting to realise what a sacrifice the Mods make. If we could make the next step - think about the consequences before Posting - it'd be some step forward. Not sure it'll ever happen though.
3) You could never forecast where & when these things would go off. Life remains chock full of surprises. Some nice, some not so.

Lol, thanks Neil! Sad soul, me, I'm one trick pony right now.
You MUST read "SNOWBALL", the, what seems to me to be, "official" Bio of Warren Buffett. You'd love it. I finished my 3rd re-read of it last night, & I'm quite sad about that, as it's such a great read, & an hour of his antics every night inspires me.
He's a quite extraordinary guy. He's leaving all that money he made to the Gates Foundation. He & Gates hit it off big time when they first met, back in the eighties, & he considers Gates to be his siamese twin. Oh to be a fly on the wall when those two are shootng the breeze. I wonder what their combined financial & creative IQ is?!
Not sure what to read next, to be honest. My little "library" is at home, & I'm in London, so I'm empty of material, & I'll not be back home until Sunday. Next week, at Gatters, I'll spend a fortune in the bookshops, I always do!
How are you finding/enjoying retirement? What do you do with yourself all day?

You mean how is my
career-break
going?
Pretty good so far.
Found time to visit my favourite auntie in hospital, who is pretty poorly, go to my son's sports day, spend some time with my parents, out to the pub with some friends to watch footie... and play a few games of cards.
All without the silly stresses that come with having a real job...
Just ordered the Buffet book (it is a book about food, isn't it?).... look forward to reading it.

...
I have this problem with bookshops in general, like a couple of weekends ago I popped into one just to check on new releases, ended up spending £35 - none of them were new publications
I have a similar relationship with book shops that gambling addicts have with bookmakers.

Sounds like the career-break is going well. I could never do that - retire, then start again.
I'm going to post a few Buffet-isms, just to ensure your appetite is whetted for that book. When you read the book, skip the family stuff, he & his wife Susie had THE most odd relationship, but that seemed oddly out of kilter with the thrust of the book, & his life.
He had some odd expressions which he used in business. "cigar butts", "coat-tailing", thumb-sucking", & my favourite, "invert".
Then I'll try & say no more about him. I'm acutely conscious that I get very obsessive, "full-on", about whatever is currently in my mind, & I must seem very boring to others. Poker, SP, blonde, DTD, personal angst & stresses, Buffett, mechanical things, nature, taking things for granted, sex, whatever is currently my thing seems to dominate me. I must find a better balance.

Buffett's annual Shareholders Letter (his vehicle for these is "Berkshire Hathaway") is like a Presidential "State of the Nation" address. Everyone reads it.
Here's his 2009 shareholders letter, which becomes, in effect, the best summing up of the so-called "credit crunch" I've yet to see.

The current price of one Berkshire Hathaway share (he refuses to do a share split) is $118,305.
When he invests in companies, he does not do short term speculation, to him, he measures an investment in decades.
Here is a recent breakdown of his portfolio.
