Morning, & all noted as to my inadequacies as to Twitter. The problem is, I just don't understand it, what to do, how to do it, & I need spoon-feding as to how to do it well, or even better.
I think comparisions with the Stephen Fry tweeting model are wrong, though. I'm not really gonna get away with "drove to London, traffic awful", or "done the Show tonight, I was crap", "met (z-list) celeb today". He can, (if that's what he does), but I can't.
Examples, please, & I'll try to weed the serious replies from the piss-takes, though Heaven knows how I'll know which is which.
I don't, for example, know what this means, or how to apply it......
Stephen Fry is rarely mundane or uninteresting.

On here tikay engages his viewers/readers/audience/groupies, talks about things in his own inimitable style, joins in a dialogue with those who respond, etc. It's what he does well - and people love it.
What is the suggestion? - that via Tweets I have a moan & groan about music in public places, the price of eggs, what a tosser Wooly Jumper is, how dumb is the UNITE union, my weight problems, my packing up smoking? Who on earth would be interested in any of that?
That's what people read on here! Seems to go down well

This really matters to me - it's my job, & I take it seriously. I have to excel at my job, mediocre - which is where I'm at right now - is no good to me, I'd rather retire. SP seem happy enough, & have sent me several nice notes saying as much since I've been in Vegas, but I know I can do better, & it's driving me nuts that I'm under-performing. (Hence I was up & working at 6am this morning).
We'll discuss when you're back

Hello Tikay,
I'm with you on the Twitter thing, I think all Tweets are boring, pointless and are generally for people who think they are more important/interesting than they actually are.
I would much rather a long-winded ramble on a forum/blog any day, where you can express what you need to say in a humorous fashion. I for one hope Twitter stays for the younger ones and we can ramble like drunken tramps on our forums.
All though, I will most likely be on my own in this view (no change there then?!).
Keep up the good work!

We think alike, Sir, but the (sad?) truth is, the world keeps moving on, & for commercial reasons, I need to find way to "work" Twitter & FB.
Forums allow us to express ourselves better, it's true, but they have downsides too, & there are frequent days of late when I feel that my time on Forums is over, some of the stuff I see & experience makes me want to throw up.
I have google alerts for business reasons, & the stuff I get sent which "Alerts" picks up off various Forums is beyond belief.
I'm honestly scared that I've become a bit above myself, a bit snobbish, in thinking that there are so many "not very bright" peeps on poker forums. Almost daily, I get sent google alerts of Forum Posts, from all manner of poker Forums (there are so many of them!), & they really do say the dumbest things. Well I think they are dumb. And I just don't know how you reply to people who think like that.
Typically, they'll say......(& I could give 100's of such examples)......
"....the RNG at SP still needs sorting out. I had A-A, against A-T, & the turn & river came running Tens". Proof indeed it's corrupt, eh?
One man wrote & complained that when the field in a Tourney rediuced to 1 or 2 Tables, the RNG/software "did not adjust to the smaller numbers".....WTF?!
I really do struggle with Forums when I see that sort of nonsense day after day. And, to be fair, I don't see that tripe on Twitter, praise be.

That may be the funniest thing I've ever read/heard when people (usually terrible losing players) insist on the interwebs being rigged.

I agree with all that and have walked from forums for months at a time, especially football ones.
Twitter is better in that respect, because you can self police it to a certain extent I believe. As in, you need to accept invitation for them to post replies??
I think the easiest way to use Twitter is to just post up any thought that enters your head and don't worry whether you think it is interesting or not. People will understand how your mind works(maybe?) and get it.
And don't get me started on Facebook campaigns....

God help me. I now follow Mr Fry.
Jeez, I've sold my soul.

I didn't think about it until Kin brought this up, but I think the 'style' part is the key to your problem with twitter.
Your forum entries Tikay 'sound' like you're expressing your opinion, or letting people know what's going on in your life - your twitter and facebook entries just 'sound' like press releases (albeit very condensed ones)
Another notable member of the Twitteratti is the lovely Caitlin Moran

have a look at the interactivity and see how much more you can engage with people rather than just tell them things - although you've got a 'bit' of a way to go to get enough followers to replicate that interactivity
