Sov,
Losing weight is the easiest thing in the world.
Eat less.
Eat bettter.
Zero-tolerance to "cheating".
Weigh yourself daily, & set up a spreadsheet/graph as a motivational tool.
Chuck all the "Diet Systems", Atkins Diet, books, & all that nonsense in the bin. Eat better & less. There's no magic formula, that's all there is to it. The trick is to get your mind head in the right place. Without that, it won't work. With it, it can't fail.

... Eat better & less. ..
Technically that's all you need to do it, exercise more can help but isn't strictly essential.
But some people do need help to work out what 'better' constitutes, and when they're eating 'less' just how much 'less', a lot of named diets are essentially just ways of clarifying an exact definition of "eat better & less"

I know what you are saying, I guess I'm looking for guidance as to what to eat as healthy options. Evening meals mainly.

YES - White meat, spag bol, fruit, youghurts, ryvita & Phili-Lite, Oxo Cubes (as a drink), grapes by the lorry load.
NO - Bread, cakes, alcohol, potatoes, sweets, chocolate, sugar.
I manage perfectly fine on 1,200 calories per day. The "experts" say that is too little (though it's person specific), but if your energy levels are high - & mine got higher as I ate better - then it's cool & dandy.
Ignore the twaddle you read about minimum calorie intake per day - it is person specific. Nobody died dieting "sensibly".

I lost 7 stone 18 months ago (from 20½st down to 13½st) and was dismayed by the number of people who said I looked ill. I had never been fitter, healthier or felt as good. My blood pressure went from the point of needing medication to absolutely perfect.
I think it takes other people a while to see you differently. Until the new you becomes the norm, you look different and 'ill'. That's all.
Absolutely.
BTW- Did you keep the weight off?
Not all of it, no. It's a constant battle tbh. I'm just a natural big, fat slob
I still weigh myself weekly and take steps as appropriate. I'm 15st 2lb now. Best foot forward...

how did you do it? I'm keen to lose a bit of weight, I enjoy swimming so going to be doing that a couple of times a week, got a dog so will be continuing to walk her lots but in terms of diet did you actually follow a diet like weightwatchers or did you just eat less bad stuff?
I limited myself to 2000 cals a day, I tried 1500 but it wasn't enough - for me. I kept a food diary in the form of a spreadsheet and weighed everything. Everything. I ate much better, healthier but still allowed myself little treats. I bought one chunky Kit Kat a week and cut it into quarters, allowing myself a piece if I had the headroom in the spreadsheet.
I walked as well. 4 miles a day, every day (or night). Come rain, hail, snow. I also bought a heart rate monitor (mainly cos I love gadgets) and walked as fast as I could, trying to break my 'record'. I think the time fell from 1h 6m to 46m. I think I made 130 consecutive days before missing.
That's about it really. The 7st took took just over 7 months. Oh and I weighed myself at the time time every week. Still do.
As Tony said, it's all about your head being right. If it is and you really want to do it, success is just a matter of time. Just don't take your eye off the ball when you get there!
