The latter of those will be a real stonker. It may be partly due to that bit of nonsense in Cannes late last year, I guess.
What was the Cannes nonsense?
I believe an Updater & a player were colluding, the Updater stood behind somene else who lifted his cards & the Updater could see them, & he was giving body language messages to his mate. Or somesuch.
There was a thread on blonde about it, everyone got quite excited about it, but I'd not know how to find it.
Even money that one of the hardcore poker types finds it in seconds.
Either that, or we will have to wait for Andrew. (Last seen lying down somewhere)
Even Clever Clogs Andrew, aka Dr Marbles, was beaten this time.
As an updater, this incident absolutely chilled me to the bone. I'll direct you to Shamus (
http://hardboiledpoker.blogspot.com/2010/11/no-cannes-do-on-disqualification-at.html
) who explained this a hell of a lot better than I ever could.
It's an unwritten rule for me, and I assume 99.9% of bloggers, that we do NOT look at a player's hand. I personally deliberately turn away if I can see said hand. Sometimes though, it's unavoidable. I was at DTD yesterday and was trying to get some chip counts. As I was counting a stack, the hand came round preflop to the stack I was counting. The player did not know I was behind him and looked at his hand injstinctively, it was his turn to act. I didn't have time to react and saw his hand. As it happens, he folded. However, it just shows that some times we get to see players hands despite our best efforts not to look. Had our man decided to play his hand I would have gone to another table straight away and returned at the end of the hand.
As bloggers, we do what we can to make sure we don't see a hand. Players though do need to protect their hands better. Shaun Deeb wrote a post on this over at 2p2 before the Cannes incident came out, yet a lot of players seem to ignore it...

Apple now claim 80% of the "Tablet" market, & that's set to go higher. Deservedly so, from what I gather, it is different class to the competition, & miles ahead, apparently.
So at what stage to the dumbschmuck headcases in the EU or wherever start their "anti-Competitive" rulings & fine Apple for being so successful, as they try to with Microsoft & google?
Apologies for responding to a post that's now 3 pages back but...
Today would be about 2 years late, IMHO. Microsoft sold various flavours of Windows and used various methods to try and kill competitors for their own apps. Apart from buying them up, their usual trick was to develop their own versions and then bundle them in Windows for free (browsers being the main point of contention). Of course this brought screams of protest from the original vendors of those apps as they saw their market share slashed. But Microsoft never stopped a purchaser of Windows installing other people's apps if they wanted to. Just made the average user not want to bother. For this they got done over by the EU.
The big difference with Apple is they insist on maintaining
absolute
control over what's installed on the piece of their hardware you have just bought. If you wanted to install a competitor app to an Apple one, there is no way you can do it (well, you can jailbreak it, but Apple do everything they can to prevent this). By insisting on only being able to install apps from their own App Store (
TM Apple
, if they get their way), and maintaining completely arbitrary rules as to what can be sold via the app store, including specifically anti-competitive rules, you don't have any option to go elsewhere.
As a software developer, I hate Apple with a passion. I could invest money developing an app for the iphone/ipad/desktop(soon), and then Apple could
arbitrarily
tell me that users aren't allowed to install it on the hardware that
they
have bought. And even if they accepted it into their store, they would take 30% of the purchase price for themselves, and there is no way round that. And if in the future they developed their own version of my app, they could then kick it out their app store. I can't believe they've got away with this behaviour for so long, frankly. I think the problem is that the average consumer doesn't see this as a problem. You don't have a problem with something you can't see.
I have to confess I own an Apple product. The last car I bought came with an IPod adaptor. There was no easy way to connect any other type of MP3 player, because Apple insist on using a proprietary connector, despite everybody else standardising ages ago. So I bought a second hand Gen3 IPod. Made me feel sick. Although I've avoided paying them any money via ITunes, which I'm happy with. I'd rather buy CDs. (Before someone pedantic tells me I could use an FM transmitter, yes, I know, but that would be a big faff).
Oh, and the 80% share of tablet market is most definitely not set to go higher. Fortunately. Not that there are any killer competitors yet (lot of Android tablets coming up), but market share for ipad is definitely heading downwards. Hard not to, given it started at close to 100%.

Did you ever answer the best & worst interviews question? I don't recall seeing your answers.
Also, who gave you the nickname Tikay? And what was the inspiration to spell it that way, as opposed to TK or TeeKay etc.
Am looking forward to SPT next week, especially now Eck is confirmed as a no show

Fantastic Post, thank you Rex.
I know sod all about this market, but I eagerly consume all the industry news about it in the FT, especially as to Apple, & Mr Jobs.
The apps thing. This week's FT said something about thousands of Apps being available for Apple I-Pads, & only a handful available to all the non-Apple, & usually Android (google?) based Tablets. It makes more sense now having read your Post. It also mentioned that Apple make a nice "turn" on all Apps sold via their "Shop" - the only place you can buy them. Nice.
As a Business Model, in a way, that reminds me of Rolls Royce Areo Engines. They now make more money from maintaining their installed engine base, Aero & otherwise, then they do from new-build supply. So effectively, then can sell the actual engines at cost, below even, if they tie the buyer into a life-long maintenance deal.
Anyway, back to Apple, & Mr Jobs. Post more on the whole thing, please. As a random know-no-IT-lay person, I look at Mr Jobs, & Apple, with nothing but admiration for the sheer originality & quality of their products. You, as, it seems, an industry insider, think exactly the opposite.
More please.

No, not yet Vinni. My trouble is I dwell on these things for so long, as I want to get therm "just so". I still want to reply to Cos's "Sporting Heroes" question, too. I'll reply to both soonest. Maybe I should be more impulsive, & just Post my first thoughts.
Would it be reasonable to assume that the "tikay" moniker question is a level? Not being rude, like, just curious. There is a story behind it, but it's pretty boring, tbh.
Did you know that 90% of the people who "know me" (in poker) actually think my real name is "tikay". 5% apparently think it's "teejay". 2% are unrepeatable......
How are you bearing up, anyways? Dad OK?

Oh, and my Dad is doing ok, thanks for asking, a few down moments etc, bound to be the case, he is booked to go to Malta on the 14th for a fortnight, so hopefully that will help him a bit.
He has a great son though, that looks after him as much as he can.

Really? Hype, or known fact? I'm really surprised if true.
They are so big & pretentious to take to a Poker Table, though, don't you think? I'd feel a bit of a cock, I think. To match my looks.
I asked a friend and did a bit of googling.
At the WSOPE Dan Shak had one at the table all the time, with some kind of headset plugged in and I think he looked like a prize cock with it to be brutally honest.
Thing is he was working at the table, how else is he supposed to work?
Maybe work when not in poker tournaments. I hope that wasnt a serious question.
I may be wrong but I recall him being on a headset talking which is pretty disrespectful to others at the table, working or not.

OK, enough, I have to go to work now. Been a pleasant & restful Sunday, & I hope it's been the same for all of you, too.
Tonight's Show (spam alert....) features the £55 PRIMO, which starts at EIGHT PM, but the Show does not begin until NINE PM.
There is also a Viva Las Vegas Semi-Final tonight, which we'll try & follow a bit on the Show, as well. Vegas, oooooh......
PS - 19 runners already for tonight's VLV Semi - a few familiar names there, too, including THREE players who won VLV packages in previous years, (KidGirlGy, Penguin7, & MaggiesDad) & a few blondes, too.
