When you arrive at the cash desk with the nippers gathering all around pull out your mobile and have a heated debate with a dead phone. Continue the debate until you are safely in your car. It's surprising how even the most hardened nipper wont interupt a serious telephone convo. You just gotta hope the phone doesn't ring while your doing it.

you say that like a guy who's ever needed to go to the cash desk to be paid.

Since a diary is about honesty and painting the full picture I might as well say I'm very cash short atm.

You saying you're a reg at the cash desk or something superstar?

This doesn't look legit.

Last day of the open day is today.I work for BA and today you have to be escorted by an engineer.

Website has several mistakes, even the photo gallery says 2010 and is from the 90s or earlier.

Hope you haven't paid any money.

Played the £300 @ DTD yesterday, the less said the better. Was hopeless, cardless, luckless (good or bad) & imaginationless. Took me 7 levels to get above my starting stack, started to change gear, but engaged reverse instead. Most pleasing table company though, in the main. Left there @ 1am, & was back in London just after 3am, & slept like a baby. An old baby.

Had THE most wonderful thrill yesterday. Was driving north, had exited the M1 in Northamptonshire as the traffic was so shite, & was pootling up the back lanes when I spotted a bunch of Red Kites. Stopped the car, & watched them for over an hour, what a thrill.

They have a wingspan of almost 2 yards, & seem to hang in the air for ages without barely moving their wings.

They were nigh on extinct a century ago in the UK, but have staged a remarkable recovery, & are now plentiful.

In the nest, the bigger chicks will kill the smaller chicks quite often, to ensure enough food supply, greedy buggers.

I read somewhere that if the chicks are on the ground, & a predator approaches - a fox, say - then the mother & the chicks "play dead" until the predator passes by. Sounds a bit of a tall story to me, but maybe it's true.

Just go to Marlow Tikay and you will see hundreds of the things - apparently they 're-introduced' them several years back, and now the Chilterns has more Red Kites than sparrers     ....       pretty impressive stuff watching them circle on the Buckinghamshire thermals.

I thought it was the muntjac puppies that "played dead" and had no detectable smell.

Mind you I could be suffering from juvenile dementia.....

We all know about the River Severn Tidal Bore (& doubtless you will be bored by such trivialities), but I saw something this week - not in real life, sadly - which blew me away.

So, this is the UK's most famous tidal bore, (should that be upper case "t" & "b" I wonder?) on the Severn....

Can't say I'd heard of a Tidal Bore before seeing this.  Had a quick look a some videos and found this gem.  I like the orderly line of surfers at about 3m 30s.

Thoughts on Dan Lobb for Strictly Come Dancing? Thought he might be a jigger @ 10-1?

Good Morning Mr cdw.

Was VERY impressed by the array of flying stuff assembled, hopefully next time I'll get a ticket, instead of standing outside & ogling through the fence like a schoolkid.

One question, though, very geeky, but I KNOW you'll know the answer.

Amongst the 747, A380 (wow, what a beast that is!), Concorde, etc, there was one, almost lowly, 757 - but here's the thing. It had the OLD BA Tail Livery (NOT the "waving flag), & no winglets, suggesting perhaps it was "old stock" & about to be pensioned off. But it had just been re-sprayed, or so it seemed, all bright & shiny. What was that all about, please? Oddly, after all the other 'planes were removed from the apron in front of the Maintenance hanger, that 757 remained all week, & was still there when I last left Heathrow yesterday morning.

Thanks Luther. I went back to that spot on the M40 yesterday whilst heading up to Leeds, & found a side road to park, & watched them for ages - what an amazing sight, they are fabulous birds.

Seems a very complicated way just to get hold of a few e-Mail addy's. Something not adding up there.
