Not really sporting, but this guy was pretty impressive:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marion_Tinsley
What?
Tinsley never lost a World Championship match, and lost only seven games (
two of them to the Chinook computer program
) in his entire 45 year career.[
He played a game of "checkers" v the Chinook Computer Programme?
That might just be the greatest dumb thing I've ever heard.
Steady on with this stuff, you are cheering me up.
I guess I'm being dumb, but how is it dumb ?
Wrong word Raymondo, my bad. It's like wicked means great, & "joke" means shite. Or summat.
I just think it is an incredibly sort of bizarre but great fact.
I was great at checkers.
You was?
Yup, I beat a Chinook helicopter programme
I'm trying to picture it in my mind, this geezer playing a software programme for a Chinook helicopter.
Course, if it were an Apache Helicopter, or a Sikorsky, he'd never beat them.
Ah ok, I did not get that
Pretty much the opposite to the current theme of the thread but I was just reading this, I'm not that clued up on Taekwondo but seems a bit of joke...
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/olympics/18233018
Not really sure how it could be justified that someone who is ranked 93rd in the world would get choosen over someone about to be ranked world number one. Shame politics has to creep into pretty much everything.
Tried to balance the negative with someting positive by finding a sporting achievement that you wouldn't know but since that'd take me forever I'll just c+p this instead for those, unlike yourself I'm sure, who didn't know this...
Brian Lara - 400 not out
Lara was England's nemesis in the final Test in Antigua in 2004, with the Trinidadian left-hander becoming the first man to reclaim the world Test batting record. A decade earlier, Lara had broken the record on the same ground, hitting 375 against, you guessed it, England. But Matthew Hayden bettered his effort with an astonishing knock of 380 against Zimbabwe in 2003 to re-write the record books. But, after 582 deliveries, that brought 43 boundaries and four sixes, Lara reached the magical figure of 400 before proceeding to declare. A battered and bruised England had bowled over 200 overs as Lara finished unbeaten in West Indies' humungous 751-5. Although England were dismissed for 285, the match finished as a draw mainly because Lara's innings took a mammoth 773 minutes to complete.
He would struggle to get 40 versus the current England attack

Interestingly enough I c+p'd that from ESPN's top ten greatest sporting achievements, I reckon if I give you five guesses at just guessing which sport the achievement was in, nevermind the achievement itself, you wouldn't get it correct, unless you've seen it.

All of that was obv a ploy by me to bring humour to the thread after the negativity of the taekwondo story.
