Oh, and go Tony, tid etc...

Err, Yes. And this.

I was doing that, softer heels/ Clarks etc, eased it but no solution. Then we had a Jones Bootmaker open up in town and bought a couple of pairs of "well made" shoes, £150+ jobs. After a few days, including the inserts, was miles better. I honestly don't know why, assumed it was better made shoes, because when I go back to sticking the Lacoste/Boss shoes/trainers back on, after a day, it hurts again.

Go Tikay!

We have a Jones Bootmaker in Leicester.

Shoes or boots? Off the shelf or made to measure?

Go Tony.

There's a Jones or two in Nottingham and I've bought a few pairs of decent shoes from them over the years but I don't think they actually make shoes to measure.

They have a few of their own brand on show but they never appealed to me.

PS Well done Tony.

So is Boot maker a euphemism for 'we sell other people's brands at a markup'?

WP Tone.

It's just a high-end retailer although not as high-end as it used to be as they no longer appear to stock Church's or Loakes..

I used to occasionally treat myself to a pair of Church's moccasins which are actually loafers. Beautiful shoes that would fit me like gloves but they cost £100 per pair and that was twenty years ago.

I'm not a fan of heavy shoes and the Jones' own brand always seemed very heavy and rather clunky to me but that is a matter of taste, a subjective view.

I guess the "bootmaker" bit refers to the fact that they have their own range.

I have previously purchased what one might call Chelsea Boots from said establishment. They were absolutely fine and reasonably priced.

However, today, I have been mostly wearing...

...a pair of Paul Smith dress shoes.

Had some Loakes shoes for absolutely years.  Still kept their shine ridiculously well and still looked fairly new.  Started leaking this winter, got them fixed at one if those shoe repair joints, lasted a month before they started leaking again.  Might just have to get some new ones.  Sure it is cheaper than Clarks in the long run.

Good luck tomorrow Teaks... Brad or Mantis for you?

There are quite a few shoe factory shops not a million miles from you Red, I like Cheaney In Desborough they do proper Goodyear welted shoes and are all still hand made on-site whereas a lot of Loakes, Church's etc are now mostly made in India and then just finished off over here.

Loving the snaps and write ups Tikay.

Have you been to Australia? Some rather epic train journeys there! I took the Indian-Pacific from Sydney to Perth a few years ago when I was backpacking down under. It was certainly a experience, probably not one I'd repeat (like bungee jumping!), but glad I did it instead of flying. 72 hours of rolling Outback, kangeroos, and stories from this lovely old Aussie gent who was sat next to me.

About half way through the journey, the train stops at what is a now ghost town called Cook. It used to be a thriving little community, with all the things you'd expect to see like a school, church, few shops etc, but gradually people migrated to more urban environments. If memory serves me right (it was 2010 when I was there), there was literally just a handful of people still living there, maybe 5 or 6, and they relied on the Indian-Pacific to drop essentials off twice weekly on its way through Cook. Very eye opening experience indeed, to see people choosing (I guess) to live in the middle of nowhere in what is a very developed country.

The Indian-Pacific also has the longest stretch of straight track anywhere in the world, think it was out towards Perth way in WA.

I'm not a train buff (aviation more my thing as you know), but I do enjoy some of the trains on the continent, particularly the double decker trains in Germany. I'm always pleased when City draw a German team in the Champions League Smiley

All the best for day 2.

What sort of Shoe Repair place? Timpsons is no good for proper shoes. You need to find a proper old-fashioned shoe repair shop, where they will appreciate the task. I've had Loakes last through three or four sets of soles n heels, and Churches shoes are even better.

I genuinely did duck Timpsons and go to the local business.  I think they are now leaking where the sole meets the top rather than the rather obvious hole that was there before. I have a second pair of "work" shoes so no biggie right now.  Might have another look at them this week to try and work out what went wrong.
