Bloody hell John, that sounds dreadful.
You don't say exactly what the illness was, & I won't ask, but it must have been pretty awful.
I'm a bit lost for words right now. I'm a bit busy with work this morning, but may return to the subject later, or tomorrow.

It was GBS tikay more info here
http://www.nhs.uk/conditions/Guillain-Barre-syndrome/Pages/Introduction.aspx
This is very long but a good overview of the treatment/dangers
http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/315632-treatment
This is the ongoing part which seems to some extent to be a lottery from the above site
"Long-Term Monitoring
Although follow-up studies generally have assessed patients 6-12 months after onset of GBS, some studies have reported continued improvements in strength even beyond 2 years. With prolonged recovery possible, GBS patients with continued neurologic deficits may benefit from ongoing physical therapy and conditioning programs.
As previously mentioned, numerous papers have addressed the issue of persistent fatigue after recovery from GBS.[81, 82, 83] Studies have suggested that a large percentage of patients continue to have fatigue-related problems, subsequently limiting their function at home and at work, as well as during leisure activities. Treatment suggestions range from gentle exercise to improvement in sleep patterns to relief of pain or depression, if present.
GBS can produce long-lasting changes in the psychosocial status of patients and their families.[84, 85, 86] Changes in work and leisure activities can be observed in just over one third of these patients, and psychosocial functional health status can be impaired even years after the GBS event.
Interestingly, psychosocial performance does not seem to correlate with the severity of residual problems with physical function. Poor conditioning and easy fatigability may be contributory factors. Therefore, providing long-term attention and support for this population group is important."

My Goodness Horsey. You never know how much inner strength and determination you have in reserve until something comes to test it.
More power to you.

Hoping your recovery goes well Horsey.
I'd heard of GBS, a former Celtic player (Morten Wieghorst) came down with it when playing for us. He was back playing about a year later, he only played another 4 or 5 games for Celtic. He did however have another 4 good years playing back home in Denmark, winning the Cup & a League/Cup double.
There was a home produced film of his recovery, and it even shows him scoring after his return (the Celtic crowd went daft for him that night), hope you recover as well as Big Morten did!!

Glad to hear you're on the mend, Horsey.
Agree 100%, regarding the NHS. People love a moan up, but we really don't know how lucky we are.
All the best!

Crikey John, you don't do things by halves, do you?
That sounds terrible.
To get that malaise, do you just have to run bad?
I just can't begin to imagine how I would cope if anything like that ever happened to me. I've been so lucky with health, & I honestly don't know what it must feel like to be ill or unwell.
Everything crossed for a full and speedy recovery. The lads on Fred have missed you terribly.

Guernsey is very old world, rather like the Isle of Wight, or Cornwall.
No proper shops, no big buildings, & very little commerce.
Dotted around the island, outside people's front gardens, are little displays of home grown fruit & veg. It is all based on "honesty boxes", nobody serves you, you just help yourself.
Gill is a severe shopaholic, so we visited several, & our journey home was burdened by about 10lbs of Guernsey Tomatoes & whatnot. The bloody fridge is full of them now.
Pretty sure the
Tesco ones are better
, but Gill won't hear a word of that.
Bolded bit surely a level, but if not your taste buds are fked from the fags
Not at all - you can't beat these bad boys.

And why don't you post pictures that we can quote.
I'm not sure why that is Tom, it just comes out that way.
Might be the new App I got to download photos from my 'phone. It's one of those contact-less things, like a credit card - I just sort of hover the phone over the post on blonde & it auto posts the photo from a bar code or summat. Don't have to click any buttons or anything.
You really do need to get your act together with technology, you know.

We had the buffet dinner on the trip back to Southampton. We love buffets, though few can match a Vegas buffet.
Gill, as usual, had foreign shit. (The packet in her right hand are seasickness tablets, as it was rocking & rolling a bit).
Me? Proper dinner - meat, potatoes & gravy. Does food, or life, get better?
What? Have you eaten your greens already?
OG's don't eat greens Tom, you should know that.

BTW- what is your definition of a shopaholic?
My definition would be Gill, she's perfectly addicted to buying tat.
When we are out & about on our little away adventures, I know exactly what sort of shops she likes to peruse & in Guernsey we must have stopped at 6 or 7 of them.
She purchased this in Guernsey. I kid you not.
The case rests.
