My theory- It's 'My life has changed and nothing will be the same ever again' syndrome.

Mourning the loss of all those fags and buns must be hell tbf

Precisely.

Saw Harry the Heron again this morning.

That top view is accessed by walking across the Molesey Weir Lock gates, then along that footpath with the guard rail, which is the only possible access to Ash Island.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ash_Island

Ash Island sits just below Taggs Island, which was originally owned by Fred Karno - he of the circus. In fact Fred Karno was the original owner of the Marquee Houseboat now owned by Dave Gilmour, & where DSOTM was partly recorded.

Tez Heron photo, MANTIS?

I don't think so.

Vegas Staking Update

I think everyone has now received their Staking Returns.

This morning superwomble confirmed his bank details so I paid that.

It turned out that ShipItGood was NOT a staker, so that one is off the list.

I also paid the two oddbods - Red-Dog & MANTIS - this morning, through gritted teeth. Those boys ran real good.

Sue & Dave Norsden pledged their return to either charity, or a matter Next Door, which I'm currently trying to sort. (Will reply to their PM shortly).

So that seems to be about that, the curtain comes down on the 2017 Vegas Adventure.

A shame we lost a bit of money. All those Day Two's - 3 in a row - & not a cash between them was a tad frustrating, but that's how poker works, as you all know.

Several PM's have requested "same again next year" - some folks never learn - but yes, if I manage Vegas 2018, you are all booked.

Anyway, from where I sat, it was all tremendous fun & I loved every damn moment.

Thanks for investing, maybe we'll do it all again next year.

There was a wonderful documentary on BBC recently, about a man named Eric Gill.

Who?

Eric Gill's work has been observed by everyone of us. His statues & sculptures adorn many of our most famous buildings - including Broadcasting House, but more widely, he designed a font which became universally used - Gill Sans.

Gill Sans was adopted nationally by British Railways, & the London Underground. You must recognize these types of font & signs?

Yes yes, of course you do.

I guess like many of you, I watch TV Docs like this on "Catch Up" or "Planner". That allows me to press "pause" as often as I want, so I can go off to Wikipidea & learn stuff about the characters in the Docu.

So there I was, watching this fascinating TV Show, & busy wiki-ing this that & the other.

At this stage, I got something of a shock.

Graphic nasty stuff follows - look away now if you are squeamish or easily offended.

So, I alighted on Eric Gill's wiki page, & it had all the usual guff;

Gill was named Royal Designer for Industry, the highest British award for designers, by the Royal Society of Arts. He also became a founder-member of the newly established Faculty of Royal Designers for Industry.

That is followed by;

Early Life

Career

Sculptures

Typefaces & inscriptions

Published works.

All of which you'd expect to see in the Wiki Page of such a distinguished man.

Look, it's here;

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eric_Gill

But then without warning, it gets all messy.

"He became a Roman Catholic in 1913 and worked primarily for Catholic clients in the largely Anglican country, started a lay religious order with his wife and others called the Guild of St Joseph and St Dominic, and began wearing a girdle of chastity under a habit. His personal diaries describe his sexual activity in great detail, including extramarital affairs, incest with his two eldest teenage daughters, incestuous relationships with his sisters, and sexual acts on his dog"

WTF?

And "sexual acts on his dog" was highlighted, (a hyperlink?) so I sort of could not resist having a peek. I mean, ffs, sexual acts on a dog?

So that took me here;

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zoophilia

Which, in turn, under "Extent of occurrence", says.....

Extent of occurrence

The Kinsey reports rated the percentage of people who had sexual interaction with animals at some point in their lives as 8% for men and 3.6% for women, and claimed it was 40–50% in people living near farms

They gotta be kidding us, right?

Hands up, who amongst you lives near a farm, then?

Here's the man himself, Eric Gill. I bet you'll never look at that London Transport roundel in the same light, or withouut thinking "that was designed by the chap who shagged his daughters and his dog".

Amazing what we can learn by watching a BBC documentary.

I have no idea what that means, & I don't think I am gonna ask.

Let's stick to bridges & trains, that never ends up with shaggy dog stories.

Lets just say an aircraft electrician an RAF Honington was caught in a compromising position with his Irish Wolfhound and since then, the trade are generically known as Dog Shaggers.

Our railways cannot keep running on repaired Victorian engineering Tony
More situations will happen sadly
Look at the age of the tunnels as you enter London from almost anywhere ?
There could quite easily be a major incident

HMS Queen Elizabeth arrived in Portsmouth yesterday.

What a magnificent beast.

Gonna have to make a trip to Portsmouth to see her in real life.
