What really swings it for me is that what he did tainted others, he caused the other members of the relay to be punished and humiliated along with him.
Unforgivable.

The problem with Chambers is that he has NEVER apologised for it...when he got caught he actually said he wasn't sorry because "without using drugs you can not win anything" and that is the problem.
All people who use performance enhancing drugs in sport should be banned for life...no exception...The same should go for those who miss a drugs test...or in some cases 2 or even 3. IMO Rio Ferdinand should never have been allowed back onto the football pitch.

I don't have an issue with that, if anything its refreshing to have someone actually admit what they were doing rather than deny everything like just about every other athlete does. He shouldn't be given worse press than those previously mentioned for being honest and having the bollox to say what others wouldn't.

Or he could have had the bollocks not to cheat in the first place.
I'm not singling out Chambers - I despise all drug cheats. What about the ridiculous situation of Thanou being handed Jones' silver medal from the 2001 World Championships? What sort of message does that send out? Because they have no evidence of her cheating at the time, they can't do anything but award her the medal.
The problem with drug cheats is that they taint the sport. The 100m used to be the blue riband event in athletics. Now it's a game of 'guess who's on drugs' (or who isn't). It's a shame for those who have dedicated their lives to being the best (legitimately), and those who have been found to be cheating should forfeit their right to take part in the future. In my opinion, that should be in all professional sport.

The point about the relay team is a good one and this is a cross that Chambers has to carry. Pretty hard for the other athletes to swallow having their hard-earned medals taken away and I doubt he will ever earn
their
forgiveness.
But then again I also think it's a shame that American athletes had medals taken away from them when they weren't allowed to compete in the 1980 Moscow games and Russian athletes suffering the same fate when their government played tit-for-tat in Los Angeles 1984. But then again it's ok when people who govern play God with your life to prove a point isn't it?
Drug cheats should be banned for life and then they should be used to spread the message at grass roots level, not vilified by the people who imposed the ban after they have served it.

It has to be said there are different 'types' of guilt involved in performance enhancing drug offences.
I think missing a drug test and then being banned for life is a bit on the harsh side.
Also often Athletes take drugs by accident, or through ignorance and it is harsh to ban someone for life who is not intentionally trying to cheat.
It is hard to detect peoples intentions in these cases and is the reason that the Governing bodies often hand out bans in between a slap on the wrist and the life-time ban that intentional "cheats" probably deserve.
It has to be said that Dwain Chambers did not knowingly take a Steroid, he was given a "Nutritional Product" by his Nutritionalist coach and ignorantly he did not ask enough questions about it. The product itself, TGH, was a brand new designer product in the grey area of the World anti-doping code and was not on the banned substance list and in fact was only declared a banned drug after Dwain had been taking it.

Chambers is now being pummelled, targeted, stamped on and spat at by 20st gorillas in a sport he knows nothing about because he wants to provide for his family. He wants a fresh start and I for one am prepared to give him one.
Bit of a slur on rugby league there.
20 stone athletes who are big strong and quick through hard work and dtermination not performance enhancing drugs
Very few , if any , Super league players are 20 stones, you simply wouldn't be fit enough. The chances of being stamped on or spat at in Rugby league is 0% or as close as damn it. For spitting and stamping , I suggest Dwain try out at one of the Premiership football clubs.
Not so sure about Rugby League players all having achieved their stature without the aid of steroids though.

I hope if he does play a game for cas (which I highly doubt) its on TV, so I can watch him getting mashed and absolutely pummelled.
League is such a high impact sport he will be eaten alive.
Athletes are incredible human machines, and I dont think the physical side will prove too difficult for Dwain. However he will struggle with the co-ordination/skill and understanding of the sport and this will often lead him to be in positions where he is vulnerable physically and tactically. If he can learn and adapt skills quickly he has a chance, if not he will be unemployed and back on the track by June.

I don't agree with drugs in sport, but I also think there are very few people who should cast stones. lots of people make mistakes in life that go unrecorded/unreported. (how many people have driven over the limit at one time or another and through only good fortune have got away with it?) It's my belief anybody found guilty of drink driving should be banned from driving for life but that's just my opinion.

Correct, and you can add'in a sport where cheats would be laughed at' just like the clown Chambers deserves to be.

1st of all. Guys like Rio Ferdinand who have missed several drugs tests have not done their job!..You are a professional athlete and you KNOW you have to take a drugs test every now and again. The guy missed several because he was out shopping or pimping up his car. Screw 'em...that's you done.
Dwain Chambers (after getting caught) sais you "can not win without taking drugs"....and now he didn't know he was taking something?..come on...
You are a professional athlete and you should take responsibility for EVERYTHING you do while you are one. Remembering to take a drugs test is part of that, watching what you put into your body is part of that. If you don't comply with either of them (the first one on several occasions) you deserve to be thrown out of the game.

No, steroid abuse for the footy is almost a statutory requirement.
