yeah, Chilli played this hand so optimally it hurts in my eyes. Even just c/c'd the turn coz she was so sure he was dead/nearly dead.

Well not quite. Although the idea of c-calling the turn seems to stand up in theory, it was in fact a blunder. That's not because the deuce came of course. It is because action man says "When she called, i thought she had a monster, and i was abs done with the hand. I was not going to 3barrel the river as i didnt think she would call the turn bet without minimum AK. So the reality of the situation was that Chilil's turn call was never going to win her any additional money. It was only going to cost her the pot. Up until the turn call she had played the hand exceptionally well but she then ruined all her good work by employing a strat that was never going to work. Tikay has been discussing the luck factor in poker and much of the opinion has been that it is a major part of tournament poker. Chili allowed her opponent the opportunity to get lucky. Most of the time that can be seen as a worthwhile risk, but when your remaining stack of 6k is dwarfed by the 20k pot out there in the middle and your oppo has no intention of betting again it is a worthless risk.

It is fair to say action man butchered the hand. He got the flop bet wrong, he put his oppo on JJ/QQ/KK on the flop which was wrong, he thought Chili was checking to fold the turn which was wrong and didn't bet the miracle card when it arrived, also wrong. So he made a lot of mistakes. But by being in the pot at all he was always in with a chance of getting lucky. Chili didn't make nearly as many mistakes, but she did make the crucial one on the turn and let him get lucky. This may work in cash, but in a tournament I think it's a mistake to play so well and then let a 20k pot slip through your fingers when you have just 6k left. The luck factor is part of poker and giving your oppo a free shot at the lottery when he's not betting again anyway is not so optimal that eyes should hurt.

I'm sorry Maria, I did not man to revive a bad memory for you.

Sometimes a hand comes along which I just can't get my head round - there was no criticism intended of either of you - you both know that - but the hand astonished me, & it so reminded me of that great Thewy play against Eric Barker when Thewy won his first major Event at Luton. (Thewy called every street, for his Tourney, with 3 players left, with 9-2, having paired the 2 on the flop).

I don't think on the level that the great theoreticians do - "analysis by fish" clearly applies to me - but I just thought, "wow" when I saw Rick firing away at you with those deuces. And then the Poker Gods delivered that oh-so cruel/beautiful River. For me, a great hand to have had analysed by both players.

Kudos to you & Rick. You both have big balls.

The Poker Gods are capable of delivering extraordinary rivers.

I also think many folks are forgetting the (here we go) meta-game here, between you both, knowing & respecting each others game so much. I do find playing against players with whom you are great friends makes for different decisions than against "normal" players. When I'm in a hand against you, or Thewy, Tom, Compo, it just plays different somehow. Though with Compo, it's easier, because you just know he's always firing blanks.

It's cool Tikay and its not a bad memory, just one you learn to expect/accept in this game.   It was an interesting hand no doubt and reminds me why I hate playing with mates and tricky customers.  Over analysis of every movement is very taxing so would rather not have Trigg on my table lol.

Sod knows why about the last 4 comps that we have both entered, I have either been on the left or right Trigg.  This time fate mixed it up for us and put us on opposite sides of the same table.  Go away please  Kiss

Nope, still using that new heap of poo. Or trying to. Took a lot of pictures on it today. Unintentionally, like.

Ring you NOW? No way. I don't respond to threats from Girlies.

PS - Will ring you in 30 mins. Or try to. I've found a speed-dial short cut on the new 'phone, I just press 37 buttons (in the right order) & I'm through.
