Long and short of it - in your opinion what are the cultural differences?
There isn't a short of it, only a long of it.
I can't (Or won't) try to do you a little definitive list, because it doesn't work like that, and anyway, that's not the point.
This is a huge and complex subject, even for someone like me who is born into it, and who understands the little nuances.
I would be doing both you, me, and the Irish Travellers a great disservice if I tried to reduce hundreds of years of culture and tradition to a few lines of text on a public forum. Especially when I only really know it from the Gypsy side.

The more I think about it the less sense her teacher's instructions make. How the hell is she to find out anything until their visitor arrives and properly educates them?! Sure she'll get 'information' but doesn't mean it'll be correct. And round and round we go with all sorts of misconceptions and rubbish. Seems to me she's more likely being set up for a jumbo size ooops by the time the dust settles on this one.
Now that's a very insightful post.

Hope I'm not coming off as rude or obstructive here Dawn. That's the last thing I want to be.
I can answer as many individual questions as you like, but I can't boil it all down into a one post answer to everything, if you know what I mean

Going to request a meeting with the teacher. It's impossible for Sarah to gather a list of 'facts' without a genuine resource. She really is taking the task serious and I'd hate to see her set up for very obvious failure on this one.
Thanks for your time on this one Tom. Not at all coming across as rude! I know we kind of put ya on the spot and fair play for dealing with us. xx

BTW- Hats off to the teacher for even suggesting such an unfashionable project, and for allowing her (Why do I think it's a her?) pupils dip their metaphorical toes into such murky waters.

You're bang on. The teacher is a female and she's actually a lovely laid back kind of person. Albeit slightly misguided in this case. The class is called Civil, Social & Political Education. Oddly enough, it's the only class where your results don't count towards the Leaving Certificate.

Don't start him off moaning about his bloody arse again. It would not hurt so much if he weighed a bit less.

On Thursday I'm attending a Holocaust memorial day event at Butterley Hall. (Never thought I'd be going there by choice either) Mrs red and I will be representing the Gypsy groups and we will have a little stand where we can give out booklets and information packs etc.
In the evening, we're at the Cathedral for a service, and then on to somewhere else (A cinema I think) where we will show some of the photo's we took on our trip to Auschwitz. Then one of our group will play flamenco guitar while Siobhan reads a poem that she wrote at the time. Then she and her daughter will do a flamenco dance and after that, I'm going to do a bit of a reading.
