Well I played the UKIPT at DTD yesterday, but unfortunately I won't be troubling the scorers. I ground my way through 10 hours of play, but I was totally card dead, & with spots hard to find on an aggressive table, I eventually pushed my 7bb into the hungry maw of the waiting AJ.

I did enjoy sharing a table with Liam Flood though. he has a lovely dry sense of humour and his constant whispered asides had me in stitches all day.

At one stage, I almost got a bet on with him as to which of us had spent the least time at school, but his antenna was working too well and he escaped.

Something else made me laugh yesterday. Just before the start of the tourney, I nipped to the gents for a quick pre-comp Jimmy. Inside there was one queue for the urinals, and another for the cubicles.

One impatient chap, obviously in desperate need of a pony, attempted to hurry things along by putting on in his best PA voice and announcing loudly, "Any players not seated at the start of the tournament will be withdrawn"

After a moment's silence, a small voice from inside one of the cubicles replied, "I am seated".

Pokerstars Rules.

Yesterday, when a player bet or raised, the dealer wasn't allowed to announce the amount unless you asked. which meant, unless you were seated next to the raiser and the chips were spread nicely, you had to ask how much the bet or raise was every time.

WTF is that all about?

Well worth watching Mr Red. Truly astonishing telly. It was on this afternoon so I'm not sure whether this was a new program or a repeat of a series that I missed but what an amazing island Madagascar is.

Since I started feeding the birds outside we have been drowning in finches and other weird and wonderful little feathery buggers...

Great eh? what and how are you feeding em Mr B?

We have a woman on the market who sells wild bird food and feeders. She does a roaring trade. I bought a sort of bird-feeder tree from her, it has hooks and things for several types of feeder, (Which she also supplies) Not to expensive though, the whole lot only cost about £20.

It doesn't matter how you feed them really though, the top of a gate post works just as well.

I feed fat balls from a cage-type thingy, they last ages if the jackdaws don't come and demolish the lot in 5 minutes, and a finch mixture (to which I add a few sunflower seeds) from one of those clear plastic hoppers. I also feed peanuts from a stainless steel wire tube. (has to be stainless steel or the squirrels bite through it)

Oh, and I feed winnowings that I get from a friendly farmer along with some rape seed in a mesh bowl.

We hang the fat-balls from the tree using string, but one of the jackdaws has learned to wrap the string round the branch until the fatball is tight to the branch & it can eat it at its leisure. We know it's just one jackdaw as it's for some white feathers on its head && neck so is quite easily identifiable. We don't mind it too much because we have a grudging respect for it working out how to rob them.

Tried tying the string to the middle of the branch..... the clever bugger worked out a new method pretty damn quick:

Also, I am not sure but I think I've had 2-3 of these in my garden today

Wawxings. Would I be off the mark here? I am going off the very distinctive hairdo (technical terms), and the colourful wing tips

Tom would know better than me, Rich, but I agree, it seems to be a Waxwing.

You could do worse than become a Member of a good bird-watching site, such as that run by BirdForum. It's called BirdForum.net. Wink

It has some terrific galleries.
