Leadership is the art of getting someone else to do something you want done because he wants to do it.

Geo - Jack.
Have ether of you ever seen the Three Men in a Boat series with Dara Ó Briain, Rory McGrath and Griff Rhys Jones?
Three men and a dog..... I keep thinking about it.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three_Men_in_a_Boat_%28TV_Series%29
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three_Men_in_a_Boat
Plot summary
The story begins by introducing George, Harris, 'J.' (the narrator) and Montmorency, the dog. The men are spending an evening in J.'s room, smoking and discussing illnesses they fancy they suffer from. They conclude they are all suffering from 'overwork' and need a holiday. A stay in the country and a sea trip are both considered, then rejected (J. describes the bad experiences had by his brother-in-law and a friend on sea trips). Eventually, the three decide on a boating holiday, up the River Thames, from Kingston upon Thames to Oxford, during which they'll camp, notwithstanding J.'s anecdotes regarding previous mishaps with tents and camping stoves.
I think I saw some of one or other of the various series. Nice idea. Unless you're a non-swimmer

Nov 24th. People have been sporadically letting off fireworks day and night for over six weeks now.
Isn't it time they were restricted to organised displays only?

Could be, it hadn't occurred to me.
I don't think so though James, at least not in this case. I live in a small village and there is no one here who might celebrate Dewali.
Besides, I don't think throwing a banger at a cat counts as a festival of light.

Yes, but Yanks don't associate fireworks with Thanksgiving. Granted, I never heard of taking a group out using pepper spray just to get the best deal in the sales either so maybe times have changed.

Thanks Tom, watched the first couple and it's a quick reminder of how much things have changed.
Vuvoils and slide projectors instead of video/dvd and now sharepoint and PC direct to TV screen
The old boots and puttees and basic windproof smocks where we now have goretex and the like available.
Surprised that Cpl Craig seems to be remaining on the course after his deliberate negligent discharge of his weapon, probably one of the biggest no-no's in the Army (back then I would have expected a deserved good kicking, if not by my instructor, by other members of my team.)
Don't think I woulda passed 1st stage as I am really bad with heights.

I would really like to have a bash at the survival stuff.

Been jumping around the various programmes about the Army on the Iplayer and keeping to the theme of quotes/poems came across this one which was new to me:
God and the soldier, all men adore
In time of danger and not before
When the danger is passed and all things righted,
God is forgotten and the soldier slighted.

That's excellent Geo. Sounds like he speaks from experience.

This is the chap that made the series.
Looks like he lived his life.
