I love technology. (Sometimes)

I've fitted an auxiliary / leisure battery to my camper, and today I'm hopefully going to add a split-charge relay system.

The leisure battery is there an an independent power source, so if I flatten it overnight, I will still be able to start the car in the morning.

It's charged via a split charge relay system, which basically allows the vehicle's alternator to charge the leisure battery once the main starter battery is full, it also prevents accessories drawing power from the starter battery.

A great little device, but a complicated bastard to wire up, especially for someone like me, who gets confused if you stand me in a room with two shovels and tell me to take my pick.

Well apparently all that complex 'multiple connections between both batteries via a permanent live, a switched live, ground, relay and alternator has been replaced by this.

The intelligent voltage sensing self switching split charge relay.

Just two wires and Bob is the son that your Uncle Robert would have had if he had spent more time romancing instead of buggering about with mind-boggling wiring.

How fascinating is that for a Monday morning?

I just bought 50 x 20mm washers. They cost £3.

I could have drilled holes in 50 x 2p coins and it would only have cost a quid.

Treason!!! Defacing coins is illegal.  Edit - looking up what the potential punishment is led to finding that according to wiki there's no longer a law against defacing coins... so fire away.

BTW if you're heading down that line you could collect pre 1992 coins, melt & sell them for scrap - worth approx 3p each in scrap copper....

Wiki Quote:
Quote
In the UK, the Coinage Offenses Act 1936 prohibited the defacement of any current coins. This was repealed in its entirety by the Forgery and Counterfeiting Act 1981, thus removing the prohibition on coin defacement.

This Diary continues to, err, fascinate.

Yesterday, Quality Street Tins.

Today, Tom purchased some washers.

Incred.

Tomorrow, we shall discuss the price of potato crisps.

Cool, some economics to add to the art, science and engineering discussion.  Best thread in the house.

And from Red's washers post we've touched on numismatism, metalurgy, the law..... It's all good, I mean we could be discussing sticky buns and Las Vegas architecture

Definitely better than the alternative. It's like watching concrete dry over there.

Set, cure, go off, not "dry".

Concrete does not "dry".

Sheer ignorance.
