And while I'm at it, why does the latest Google maps update now require permission to gather 'Activity information'?

And while I'm at it, why does the latest Google maps update now require permission to gather 'Activity information'? Same reason as Tesco. To target advertising.

You know who makes those Tesco screens in the BBC report?
Clue is in the bottom right of the picture.

You'll be surprised at how many retargeting cookies are on your computer.
Cookies are text files placed on your computer that help sites associated with the cookie know details of your browsing habits, or help automatically log you in to a site (like on blonde), etc.
You might have noticed that if you look at a product on Amazon or eBay (or lots of other sites) you'll see the same product pop up in ads on other sites you visit? That's done through a cookie. Most cookies like this don't store personal information, they just provide a profile of stuff you seem to like and pass this on anonymously to other sites when you visit.
There are ways of stopping this from happening if you have privacy concerns.
Some people are very concerned about the way Google, Facebook and some other big sites have cookies that are set to expire only after VERY long periods, and basically track your activities as you visit site after site as long as you're still logged in to their site (most people don't log out of their Google or Facebook accounts).

http://purplebox.ghostery.com/?p=1016023711This is a popular tool for monitoring (and blocking if you desire) cookies that sites are trying to place on your computer. You'll be surprised that some sites will be trying to place a dozen or more cookies onto your computer when you visit a single page of their site.

Currently killing time @ st Pancras.
Metal benches, WTF is up with those? They freeze your bloody arse off. GL getting to third base while sitting on one of these. What's wrong with good old fashioned wood ffs?
Fortnum & Masons. I've had a walk around the shop and I still can't figure out what it is they sell.
I wish I could play the piano.

After commuting to/from St Pancras for years it's only recently that I realised there is a car park underneath the East Midlands and Eurostar platforms - how strong must that roof be?
The Grand Terrace bar is a pleasant place to waste 20 minutes before your train departs. It usually takes the waiters that long to notice you're there at which point I usually leave as a beer and a tiny bowl of nuts is a smidge under £10...

Sand.
Although I think it's been cherry picked to include a lot of interesting bits, rather than a scoop at random (but might be wrong).
