Big sigh.

Photographed both these rabbits from my window this morning. The first one is healthy, the second is in the early stages of myxomatosis.

What a truly dreadful disease it is.

Did you, or will you, kill it Tom?

I used to see a lot of rabbits with Myxi when I was golfing, & the lads always said "kill it with a bosh on the head from your driver" but I could never bring myself to do it. (Yeah yeah, I'd miss).

Truth is, I suppose, killing one diseased rabbit makes not a jot of difference to the problem, but at least it's dreadful suffering is relieved.

Ironic that the whole myxy thing was started, deliberately, by man.

Rabbits DO get out of control, but nature has its own way of balancing these things. But they are part of the natural food chain, & once one link goes missing, it has all sorts of strange side-effects.

I always kill myxy rabbits if I can. They're doomed to a slow painful death anyway so it's better for them.

I didn't manage to kill this one because it wasn't quite blind yet and I couldn't catch it.

Who knows, it might just be that one in a million that will survive to pass on a little immunity.

It had an "S" in the URL. You need to manually remove that "S".

Try that.

I know where you get it from though, your Dad is the worst.

I saw him over the weekend. My, he must be a good doer. Most rotund.

That cured it!
As for your opinion of my dad, I always find him to be a much better sayer.

Radio 4's Book of the Week. A beautifully written true account of a middle aged man's modern day attempt to ride the 'Very Terrible' 1914 bicycle tour of Italy.

This imo is a real treat for anyone who admires good wordsmithing. Don't just let the story wash over you, listen to the prose.

Allow him 5 minutes to set the scene and get into his stride then sit back and enjoy.

Go on, you don't even have to read it, someone will do it for you.

Have you written a book before Tom? It feels like you should have.

Have you written a book before Tom? It feels like you should have.

I'd like to, but I'm scared.

I'm scared of the commitment. It often takes me an hour, sometimes a day to write a post on here.

I'm scared of what I might learn.

As things stand, I'm secure in the knowledge that I could probably do it if I tried. If I were to attempt it and fail, I wouldn't be able to kid myself any longer.

For years now, I've cherished the thought of writing a book. As long as I don't commit to anything more concrete than that, I'm safe.

Did you manage to find the time or inclination to read that Bryson book, Tom? ("Home").

Never did a book have a more boring title, or chapter titles, but it has been such a wonderful read.

Bryson has a magic way with the use of adjectives, so original every time, & makes even the most banal of topics worth reading over & over again. I should have completed the book inside a week, but it took me a month, as I re-read so much of it, just to better admire the writing.

If Red's other Diary reader happens to see this, I highly recommended reading that book.

Yep. Read it. Twice.

Bryson proves that the importance of the story is negligible when compared to the writers ability to tell it.

I have, (God help us all) a concrete question for you.

Perfectly explained. Oh to have that talent, eh?

No.

I got a "cold call" from some outfit yesterday.

"Mr Kendall".

I'm waiting for the spiel to start, so I can hang up.

"Mr Kendall"

I eventually, & grudgingly, reply. "Yes".

But I near explode when he then says....

"is that you?"

I mean, what sort of answer did he expect?
