Well I was going to write something about David Spencer but I realised I already have.
The gent to the right is my good friend David "Span" Spencer. His wife is of Gypsy stock.
What an amazing man he is. One of life's.... 'individuals'.
He has worked on the Chatsworth estate all of his life. He and his family live in a tied cottage in the village of Beeley nr Matlock.
Span is a great outdoorsman and dedicated historian, he is skilled in dozens of the so called 'lost' crafts. Gun Smithing, dry stone walling, food preservation, basket weaving, tanning, coopering, forging metals, the list is endless.
He has a great interest in and vast knowledge of the Native Americans. I spent a month with him once, visiting and living with several tribes on reservation land. The esteem in which he is held opened many doors for me and made me privy to things not usually available to outsiders.
He is first name terms with several members of the Royal Family, (By that I mean that they address him by his first name, he addresses them properly).
He is one of the most accomplished, and yet unassuming men it has ever been my privilege to meet. I could sing his praises for the next 100 pages and still not do him justice.
If you are ever in a tight spot, he is the man you want in your corner.
This is the band that he booked for the wedding. Everything they are wearing they made themselves from scratch, including shoes. hats and musical instruments.

I couldn't resist taking a snap of this young man as he proudly showed me how well he had organised his wooden farm.

On Tuesday, a long tedious and tetchy meeting was brightened up no end by the arrival of this young lady.
Within two minutes we were all chatting and smiling. Every boardroom should have one.

How Syria's ancient treasures are being smashed
It seems wrong to be concerned about this stuff in light of so much human suffering, but it's a shame anyway.

Mauricio Pinilla's recently inked tattoo carries the inscription "One centimeter from glory"
According to David Fletcher, a sports psychologist at Loughborough University. "It's interesting that the tattoo is on his back, rather than his arm or wrist. It suggests that he's not using it as a spur to further action but more of a statement of how close he came to glory."
No shit Sherlock!

I notice that a lot of manufacturers are offering cars with "Panoramic glass sunroofs".
Eh?
Is it me?
Why the hell would anyone want to be roasted to death and blinded on our rare sunny days, or stare at sap stains and dollops of bird shit the rest of the time?

I've got a privet that bloomed a while ago. Today it's covered in bees and butterflies.
I wonder if it's because the pollen has just become ready for distribution? (Well I guess that's kind of obvious) but I wonder what changed between yesterday and today?
Did the pollen suddenly become more palatable, or was it 'released by the plant? Was nectar offered as an incentive?

My biologically inclined girlfriend suggests that it might be because the pollen isn't mature and ready to be released on one day (also maybe the stigma
), and it is on the next; so it stimulates the nectaries to produce nectar which is what attracts the insects.
Also it bothers her that you might still think it's the pollen - it's not the pollen, apparently the insects don't give a cr*p about the pollen. And apparently this is important :|
