Waiting for Wilco's to open, 15 mins to kill. Costa Coffee across the road seems a good option.

Why do I always struggle to justify paying the price of a jar of coffee for a single cup? I mean I understand that it's made fresh on the spot and I get to sit in a nice chair on the pavement to drink it .

I don't begrudge them their profit and I understand they have overheads.

WTF is wrong with me?

See if you still smoked you could of stood outside enjoying a woodbine and had people tut at you for smoking in public, rather then fork out for a Costa.

Outside isn't in public.

Mrs Red grows strawberries in a tub. She tends to them every day, they are her pride and joy.

I came across this photograph of my Great Grandmother and two of my Great Uncles the other day. I hadn't seen it before.

I remember my Uncle Duval sitting on an upturned milk crate in front of the wagon frying various meats in a huge black handle over pan. (probably two bob's worth of off-cuts from the butcher called a 'wrap up') The smell it produced as it sizzled away was indescribably mouthwatering.

He would always give me a nice selection on a doorstep slice of bread, but only in exchange for "More firewood than I can step over in one stride".
