Edit- this one is a fake, the video deconstructing it is exceptionally good though

I don't even know how to pose this question so I'll have to rely on people to make sense of it.
How can such fantastic phenomena like the pendulum experiment that Tony posted or all the other mind-boggling inalienable laws of mathematics just appear from something as random as the big bang?

In the twitter thread on that video somebody says, “Maths or Physics?”
The response “Remember that physics is what universe is trying to say, maths is the language it uses. Essentially two aspects of same thing.”
Physics is where the rules that control them originate, and mathematics is what allows us to predict these phenomena.

I've been trying to digest that for the last couple of hours.

When you're changing a tyre:
Maths is what you use to know what to do:
- which size spanner to loosen the nut
- how high to jack the wheel up
- how much pressure to apply to get the jack working
- how many turns to get the nuts off
- how many PSI to have the new wheel inflated to
Physics is why the things you're doing work:
- Turn the spanner to create a fulcrum, so the nut turns, creating a Moment (M = force x distance)
- Jack lifts the car (against the force of the entire Earth trying to drag it down at a speed of 9.8m/s
2
= gravity) using a system of hydraulics (Pascal's Principle)
- Jack lifts the car to a height that's comfortable for you, so that you exert the most force on parts of your body designed to take the strain (torque and body mechanics)
- The tyre pressure is influenced by the amount of air you put in it and this influences how much surface area you have of tyre on the road and how much grip (fluid mechanics and friction)
(And, no, I've never changed a tyre. It really is that obvious, I know)

That was a very eloquent explanation. I like the idea of bringing your comfort zone into mine.
I kind of instinctively understand the relationship between maths and physics, for instance I would be able to estimate where I needed to place the fulcrum in order to make one kilo lift ten kilos, what I don't understand is if all the physical things disappeared, would mathematics still exist, and if and if they all came back again in another big bang, would the rules still be the same?

Mathematics is a process that is applied to the physical things. If there were no physical things then why would you need mathematics?
If everything disappeared and then came back exactly the same why wouldn’t the rules still be the same?
If it came back different, I would expect the rules to be different.
Thanks, now my head hurts more than my leg and maybe I can go back to sleep

... if all the physical things disappeared, would mathematics still exist,...
This was the basis of what Pythagoras (among others) believed.
Pythagoras and his followers worshiped numbers, and by extension mathematics. Their rationale was that if you have 3 apples, 3 stones or 3 bears - if you take away the apples, stones and bears then what's left is the concept of '3' - therefore '3' (and all the other numbers) transcends this reality and must exist on a higher plane
Some of his religion/cult was ripped off from the Egyptians and some was original but it was pretty successful - not just in terms of mathematics, in real world power.
Pythagoreans became a pretty powerful and influential bunch.... until people got mad and there was a whole bunch of burning and killing.
Disclaimer: most of what I've read about Pythagoras comes from translations of much later Roman sources, so accuracy might be 'unclear' at best
