I've been following that avidly.

Today's various statements have been fascinating.

Chap arrested, initially on a charge of kidnap.

Woman (aged 30) arrested on suspicion of "assisting an offender".

Charge of chap changed to Murder.

It's revealed he is a Police Officer in the Diplomatic & Parliamentary Command.

Now it gets (to my mind) very odd.

It's announced that "human remains" have been found. Why say "human remains" rather than "a body"? I know bodies decompose, but it's barely been a week.

Then it's added "identification is likely to prove very difficult". Why?


This is going to be some story.

In a televised statement, Dame Cressida confirmed officers searching an area near Ashford had "found, very sadly, what appears to be human remains".

Also...


The officer, who has not been named by police, was arrested in Kent and is also being questioned about a separate allegation of indecent exposure.

A Met officer arrested on suspicion of Ms Everard's murder remains in custody.

The man, aged in his 40s and serving in the force's Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command, was earlier taken to hospital suffering from head injuries.

I haven't been following this but mentions of this case are everywhere I read.

Is there a reason why a case like this gets such huge coverage. I don't object as I think the level of violence from men to women, and the lack of convictions, is a massive blight on society. Many women are murdered by men every year and apart from an honourable nod to women's groups and some politicians (eg Jess Phillips) the story of this is largely ignored.

I wonder why some cases catch a wave and others are just statistics.

I imagine the fact he is a serving Police officer is the major driving force behind like you say the huge media coverage of this over and above a standard murder case of this manner.
