Yesterday, I was in Sheffield with an hour to kill, so after a quick stop to furnish myself with a cheese & onion cob and a bottle of Bud, I drove the 4 or 5 miles from the city centre to Lode lane, an incredibly steep and narrow road that twists and turns it's way to the top of the Rivelin valley. (The Loxley end)
It's like driving up a rollercoaster, but it's worth the effort, because it leads to one of my absolute favorite "Pull-off-the-road-to-eat-your-dinner-and-admire-the-view" places.
From here, you can look out across the entire length of the stunningly beautiful Rivelin valley to the Hallam hills on the edge of the peak district national park. It's breathtaking.
Normally, Kizzy and I would get out and have a bit of a walk, but the paths here are very steep and, what with my gimpy leg and all, I decided not to risk taking a 100ft header into some random patch of gorse.
As I sat there, eating my sarnie and drinking my Bud in the glorious sunshine, I noticed some thunder clouds on the far horizon. As I watched, they came hurtling towards me like an express train. I just manged to take a couple of quick snaps with my phone before the storm hit.
A few seconds after these pics were taken, I was in the middle of a torrential downpour.
