I had the immense pleasure of driving through the Derbyshire dales this morning.

The sunlight had cut vast green swathes through the frost on the hillsides. It was so beautiful, it could have been Yorkshire.

I stopped in Matlock to have a cup of tea and admire the wildlife. I spent ages watching these ducks just standing on a frozen lake. They didn't move at all, but every so often, one would shrug it's shoulders as if to say, "Well, now what do we do?"

I was in Matlock on Saturday Tom, and always thought it's a lovely area.

In Ambergate, about 5 miles from Matlock itself, there's a pub called the 'Hurt Arms' - which always makes me smile.

I love Matlock too - I've only been once, but keep promising myself that I'll go back. Would definitely make my top 10 places to visit in Britain.

There's loads of interesting stuff about the Hurt family boshi.

By 1874 the Tavern had been replaced by the Hurt Arms Hotel, built directly opposite the station and the junction with the Bullbridge turnpike. Today the stone-built hotel, whose sign shows the coat-of-arms of the Hurt Family

cracking photo Tom

I took it on my phone camera.

I would love an iPhone, but the camera in them is poor and I rely on my phone cam so much. I have 100s of pics that I wouldn't have had without it.

All the rest of the iPhone wizardry won't evoke a memory like a decent picture will when I'm in my dotage. Surely they will put a good camera in there soon.

See, now not being a drinker, I wouldn't ever have made that connection if you hadn't pointed it out.

If, on the other hand, it had been called the 'Coach and Free Pies' ....
