As some of you know, I've been doing a few odd jobs around the place over the last few days, and, upon completion of each, I've developed the worrying habit of saying,
"Well, that'll last me out."

I needed some turf yesterday, and as I only wanted about half a dozen rolls, I went to a garden centre instead of a wholesalers.
have a guess how much a roll they wanted? Go on, have a guess.....

Dunno how much they were charging, but a quick search online found this crowd who will deliver 10 rolls (10 sq metres) for £66.00. No delivery charge for orders over £50.

No. £4 a roll. but it should be like, £1.50.
Now I'm going to have to vote with my feet and spend £30 to save £20.

Thanks Dawn. It's not the actual cost, there's a principle at stake here. 50% + is too big a mark up.

Aren't most things marked up by that?

"Perishable goods", yes, in fact, more than that, much more usually. If you fail to sell perishables within x days, their worth becomes zilch, hence the mark-up.
The problem with Tom is that he has a keen sense of value.
