Trailers I saw for this referred to Roma gypsies - does this have a specific significance, and is the capitalisation appropriate (for want of a better word) Just caught the start of a program on Radio 4, unfortunately had to get out of the car and missed the rest! One of the guests is Eva Petulengro, she is a Romany and offers an explanation of the difference between Romany and Gypsy. I think that it is being repeated at 9.30 tonight. The other guests appear to be very interesting too.

No. The capitalisation is inappropriate. you've spelled Gypsy with a lower case G http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roma_%28Romani_subgroup%29

The other guests appear to be very interesting too. Petulengro is actually Romani for Smith. "Petule" is the word for horse-shoe, and "engro" is the verb part. So it sort of translates as "Doing horse-shoes" i.e. Smith. Does that make sense?

Yes. Just as an aside, If I suspected that someone was a Gypsy but wasn't quite sure, I would move close and whisper "Romanichal?" and would expect to hear something like " Avli" or " Owli" in reply.
