I don't know whether we got the word 'Teasing' from teasel or if teasel was named after 'Teasing"
teasel O.E. tæsel "large thistle used in teasing cloth," from P.Gmc. *taisilo (cf. O.H.G. zeisala), from root of O.E. tæsan "to pluck" (see tease). seems the teasel was named after the tease  |

What about Bullfinches ?
Similar to greenfinches in that they are designed for feeding on tough seeds. I have a passion for bullfinches. I used to breed them to type and also as goldfinch hybrids. I also used to catch them from the wild in the winter. Wild bullfinches caught in winter become incredibly tame very quickly. I've caught poor specimens, and when I've tried to return them to the wild they would follow me home and fly back in to the avery as soon as I opened the door. This is a cock bullfinch. The hen is a much more conservative dresser.  I couldn't find a good picture of a goldfinch / bullfinch hybrid, but this is a decent representation.  |
