Today's pic from my bike ride is of some cows.
I've noticed this particular breed several times over the years and I've always been quite take by their 'Cut & Shut' colour scheme.
Is it, I wonder, coincidental, just a by-product of selective breeding for milk yield, or was it planned, and if so, for what reason?
PS- Can anyone tell me what breed they are?

Very interesting links, and very interesting cows for that matter. Cheers Geo / Tony.
If I spot the farmer I'll have a chat to him, I bet he'll be surprised when I wax lyrical about his 'Belties'.

They're belted galloways as Geo says Red, originally from up near me. Very good beef cattle & very decorative as well.

I like the idea that they get fat on poor keep. If they were horses we would call them 'Good doers'
