They were all-round knives - used to gut & skin animals, carve wood, and for food prep etc, so it'd do fine with the taters
I don't know how into crafts etc you are, but it should take a good edge (read up on how to sharpen a 'scandi grind' it's a bit different) and would be a good basic woodcarver, you could then do from the traditional clothes peg, simple(ish) spatula, to spoons (need a curved spoon knife for the bowl part) to these:
You don't need the carving axe - he's showing off
I've carved a spoon - and being kind it was 'serviceable' i.e. you could stir stuff with it - but then you could do that with a stick.
Some people do beautiful work though.
I thanked them, I'm sure we'll hear more from Thomas anyway, he's got a real love of the traditional Scandi knives.
These are lovely, made me think of those Welsh love spoons, I can never quite believe they are carved from a single piece of wood.
Think this stuff might be a little ambitious for me Rod, but maybe I could try a wooden "Gypsy"
flower if I fancy a little whittle!
Thomas's advice on what to google was fantastic btw, more Sameknivs than you could shake a stick at, I was up far to late last night looking at them.
Really must brush up on my Swedish, though. Tack för er hjälp!

The sun's out! If you've solar panels, hurry up and turn something on or summat! Laundry, dishwasher, hoover...doesn't matter. Just pick something quick and get it running to use up all your free electric.
Tomorrow's not meant to be as sunny. No free electric tomorrow. You have been warned.

Is it one of those kinetic watches?

Great pictures, how much zoom are you using to get this close?
One thing I found when taking zoomed photo's in bright light is to move the Exposure Compensation (EV on some cameras) down slightly to -1/3 or -2/3. This will darken the image slightly but you will then get to see much more detail on the bright areas.

I could desperately do with some more optical zoom.
These are at full zoom (12X) and about a 50% crop.
Thanks for the - exposure tip.
I have - / + exposure settings, but would increasing shutter speed so that the shot is slightly under exposed do the same job and decrease the chance of camera-shake at the same time?

Possibly, but wouldn't that increase the risk of grain in the images?
I've never really got to grips with exposure settings, shutter speed and 90% of the other settings on my camera. I'm more of an experiment until it works type.

On a digital camera, only increasing the ISO will increase the grain. If you decrease the exposure with the +- settings, the camera will either speed up the shutter, close the aperture, or decrease the ISO. Or all 3. Depends on the camera I suspect. None of which will increase grain.
