but it appears you have to go through the registration set up before you get to the 'exact payment' bit

That's £3 per month, or £36 per year. (At least).

I don't mind the fee, but I object to the subterfuge, and the fact that they insist on gathering personal information in exchange for the privilege of giving them money.

That sort of thing drives me mad.

Everything these days seems to be about gathering as much information about the public as possible.

A bloke at a Honda dealership the other day wouldn't let me look at a used car without I provided my personal details, including phone number & email address.

When they do it on the phone or in person, I always offer my details in exchange for theirs. Surprisingly, not many take me up on it.

RSPB are a pretty aggressive charity too when it comes to spam mail and requests for money. I had a horrible call with them last week where they were telling me lovely tales of all the work they had done over that past twelve months, how many bird lives it had saved and then they hit me for the main reason for the call... Did i want to increase my monthly direct debit? I replied politely with a No thanks GTFO.

I just felt compelled to join a few years ago and its nice to be a member, you get a few perks, a book and a monthly mag. Not bad really for a minimum outlay of £36 per year. Plus, you'll be able to tell your bearded tits from your chiff chaffs, a life skill for any man 'of age' :-)

Like I said, it's not the money, it's the methods I object to.

I might give them a ring tomorrow and tell them what I think.

Will these be commonplace any time soon?

From what I read getting a pilots licence is often rated as easier than getting an driving license.

However, I think prangs at 10,000 feet would be slightly more serious.

Until we get driverless cars / pilotless planes I don't see a personal flight vehicle in a standard household.

Didn't you say that those tennis balls have to be removed from the onion bag or the little birdies can get snared?

And would you go about arranging the feeders so that pesky pigeons can't gobble all the food up?

Yes, and yes.

I appear to have omitted a word, that should have read:

And how would you go about arranging the feeders so those perky pigeons can't gobble all of the food up?

Most feeders are designed so that it's very difficult for pigeons to perch Ralph, but look at Milly's set up, he's created an open goal.

is that not a collared dove?

Yes, well spotted, but in this context it's a technicality Jase. It will still eat all the food and bully the smaller birds. (A bit like Caroline Cougar really)

i've yet to have the pleasure of meeting The Cougar, and obviously at my age it's too late, but I can't imagine her ever being collared

Oh, I can, collared & cuffed.

I've been looking forward to actually meeting Ms Cove ever since the first update she got involved in. I do hope she doesn't read this diary though
