Their actions are terrible and unjustifiable, but the fact they're Travellers is largely irrelevant to the story. Somehow, it's become the headline.
They are described as a family of travellers, which I assume they are, how would you like them to be described?
If it was a family from Edinburgh I would expect the headline to say "Edinburgh family"
If it was the family of a pop/sport star I would expect the headline to say "pop/sports star's family"
If it were a Chinese family I would expect the headline to say "Chinese family"
Or have I missed something?
If I seen a headline of "Soldier leads gang forcing men into slavery" I don't think, oh ffs, everyone is going to think all soldiers do that sort of thing and I don't believe many other intelligent people do either.
Geo
Chinese family, English family, Indian family, Muslim family, Christian family, Black family, Gypsy family, etc. - irrelevant.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/crime/9392950/Traveller-family-guilty-of-forcing-homeless-men-into-slavery.html
could have very easily been:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/crime/9392950/Family-guilty-of-forcing-homeless-men-into-slavery.html
Highlighting the truly important and horrific part of the story.

Would you see it the same if it had been 'Christian family found guilty of forcing homeless men into slavery'?

Yes, it's irrelevant. Criticise someone based on what they do, not what they are. Unless the race or religion is somehow central to the story, then why make it the first word in the headline? Why doesn't that headline say "Bedfordshire family..."?
A group of boys attack and sexually assault a girl - if the headline says "Muslim youths attack girl" it's very different to saying "Youths attack girl".

My point is that in all these reports they are generally headed with XYZ family, be it Edinburgh, London, Manchester or whatever. Why would the fact that this family were described as Travellers be incorrect when that is what they are?
Agree on the irrelavency, my point was why did you think it only right to highlight this case?
If it had read "Bedfordshire family" then it would have been incorrect as they are Travellers..........ducy?

This time an inaccurate headline, but one surely written to reinforce prejudices?
