Boiling water more than once does reduce the amount of oxygen that's dissolved in it.

However the amount of oxygen left in the water after it being boiled the first time is so infinitesimally small that you would never actually be able to tell the difference. If you think you can then it's either because you know it's been boiled more than once - so your mind is tricking you; or it's because there is another factor at work.

O2 can be dissolved in H2O (or something like that). But as Jon said, not to a degree that's noticeable to the human tongue.

Surely if we disolve 02 in H2O we get H2O2 which if I remember correctly is hydrogen peroxide which would make our tea quite lethal.

Disolved in water doesn't mean added to water molecules to make a new compound. The formula for salt water isn't H20NaCl . Like the cartoon though. :-D

I read recently that the 'your water has to be boiling' thing for tea was now wrong. The article, probably in the Telegraph, suggested that the advice stemmed from a period when tea wasn't of the same high quality that we now enjoy and that having the water boiling helped.

can't find the article atm but did find this which may help for those of you who drink tea

The recent snowfall has caused some concern for the peregrines on Derby Cathedral. It's egg laying time, but snow's not the ideal nesting material:

Oh dear!

It was 7 O'clock in the morning when I came home last night and I was cream crackered.

All the girls were away for various reasons, so there was no one at home to greet me except the dog. She needed to go out to answer a call of nature, so I sat on the bed fully clothed, waiting for her to bark to be let back in. (She's never out for more than a couple of minutes when the weather is this cold.)

The next thing I knew it was 12:30pm and I was waking up in bed, fully dressed. I got up and opened the door to find a very disgruntled Yorkshire terrier standing on the doorstep.

If Yorkshire terriers could fold their arms across their chest and pout, that's what she would have been doing.

As it is, I'm getting the silent treatment.

Most of my family are very fussy when it comes to how they like their tea.

My brother John for instance likes his medium strength with 5 sugars and less than a quarter of a teaspoon of milk.

There is a woman at an office that I visit occasionally and she makes the most awful tea because she doesn't give it enough time to brew, so last time I went I asked her to just leave the bag in mine and I would sort it out myself.

Off she went into the kitchen and reappeared almost instantly with cups of tea for everyone except me.

"I've left yours with the bag in like you asked" she said.

After about 5 minutes, I strolled into the kitchen get my tea, and found a mug with a tea bag in it. No water, just a tea bag.

This is actually very clever. (and subtle.)

The trouble is, it took me ~ 24 hours to get it.
