This is my method of choice, but i use a stick as opposed to the stake or whatever that is in the diagram.

Yes Milly! Now we're almost cooking.

Where do we put our snare and why?

According to the very clear diagram, you put it along the trail.  This shots my theory out the window.  Carry on....

Nope! Putting it in a random place along the trail will result in an empty belly.

Forget the diagram, look at the picture.

Other side of fence.  Rabbit won't notice it with fence blocking the view.

Yes Sir!

We have a fence and we're going to use it.

He will dip his head just low enough to miss the bottom spar. That's where we put our snare.

It is worth noting that in the absence of a natural obstacle, you can carefully bend a twig or some other plant over the run so that it does the same job.

Wiiiiiii

Can't admit to having known the answer, though reasoned it was likely something to do with a form of obstacle 'avoidance' from the bunny. How little they know....

Seems an opportune moment and audience to ask....If we have what we believe to be foxes urinating in the garden, how do we best discourage them, save calling in the local hunt?

If it is foxes, you have to try to work out why they're coming into the garden in the first place.

The number one reason is food. Are there dustbins that they can get into, or bowls of half eaten dog / cat food etc?

Next is shelter. Are there loads of big private shrubs or perhaps an old shed that they could dig a nice den beneath?

Then there's plain old territory marking. If there are a lot of foxes in your area, they will be keen to mark their territory, and having done so, will visit on a regular basis to renew the scent.

The best deterrent is a dog that doesn't like foxes. Failing that, a good fence that extends at least a couple of feet below ground is a great help.

Remove all traces of food, and pour soapy / disinfectanty water over the scent marked patches.

You can but deterrent chemicals from pest control people or at some garden centres, but be aware, they will deter other wildlife too.

Couldn't you have just given that little lasso to your ferret?

.....mashed potato, peas & gravy?

We used to have wonderful rabbit-stew, too. Lot of bones, not much meat, but it was good with lentils, butterbeans, pearl barley & that sort of shite.

Yes yes, very nice. Come on now, apply yourself. What else is significant in that photo.

Surely we can get to the answer before Rod arrives.

So we're agreed that it's a rabbit run, what do we do now?

Nandos?

I had a fox turn a small area of my garden into a toilet with quite a bit of damage to the lawn. I bought something called 'Fox Repel' - a harmless scent marking type of thing and he moved on. Might have just got lucky but seemed to work with just a couple of applications
