That bell-tower looks rather ornate and quite old too, 18thC perhaps?

St George's and correct.

BTW- There was loads of open-cast stone quarries in Portland I wonder if that's where the cement comes from?

Wiki says:

Quote
Portland cement was developed from natural cements made in Britain in the early part of the nineteenth century, and its name is derived from its similarity to Portland stone, a type of building stone that was quarried on the Isle of Portland in Dorset, England.

Portland Cement - yes, it USED to be where the aggregate was quarried. Now, not so much. "Portland Cement" is much like "Cheddar Cheese" as to link to origin these days. (ignoring daft EEC directives as to misleading names).

Note that the correct moniker for "Portland Cement" is ORDINARY Portland Cement, more generally known as "OPC". This differentiates it from WHITE Portland Cement, which is white. And VERY expensive.

By way of assisting this Diary to retain a modicum of interest, here is a bag of each.

Complicated answer this.

White cement makes.........white concrete. Sort of.

Concrete is often exposed to view in finished structures, but is a rather drab grey/khaki colour. White cement makes the concrete so much more aesthetically pleasing when the concrete is intended as a "feature".

I think you only asked because you wanted to see photos of the difference.

This concrete is made from white cement.

And this example of concrete is made from OPC.

Fascinating, yes? Certainly made this Diary more interesting. Don't be trying your mamby-pamby Shakespeare proverbs or poetry bollox on cement or concrete. Concrete is well hard.

Tom I don't know whether its still relevant to you err your friend, but I have now found a link that explains how difficult it is to hide your location from a poker site.  A lot of people assume that because they can easily arrange to watch BBC Iplayer etc from abroad, the same arrangement will work for poker.  A lot of people got caught by stars playing in the US last wsop and reverse freerolled themselves.

If you read the comments in the article it shows how difficult the whole thing is.

Thanks for this Dave.

I don't understand why sites without a licence for a particular country care what you do.

It's all about attitude imo Guy. I decided to enjoy it and guess what? I'm enjoying it.

At this very moment my train is stationary, which affords me a wonderful close up view of some very old wrought iron gasomters.

Lovely!

Thanks for this Dave.

I don't understand why sites without a licence for a particular country care what you do.

They care because if they allow access in Nations where they do not have a licence, local operators raise objections to their overall licence elsewhere.

If you used next door as an example, they guard their licence with incredible obsession & so do not allow (knowingly or willingly) access from countries where they are not licensed. By any simple calculation, & extrapolating current annual revenue over a 10 year period, the Licence which SB&G hold is worth well in excess of a billion pounds, & without that licence, the business is dead. So, with so much at stake, it makes no sense to knowingly permit a random poker player who may generate £20 or £30 to potentially damage the integrity of their licence.
