Can someone translate it please?

I got the 'sent to Cov' reference. Problem arose when I assumed Dawn did too. What I didn't get is why Tom might think Dawn's sent him there.

She asked me a question on the 22nd, I answered it, but I felt like it was not really the reply she was hoping for. After that, I didn't hear anything else from her for days.

I thought I had upset the silly mare.

I tend to offend people without meaning to, I can't imagine why.....

Ahhhhhhhhhh, NOW I get it!  I appreciated the reply muchly, honest. 

Yeah, your answer sucked...because it meant working harder on their training and I just wasn't sure if it was possible to teach them.   

Didn't want to report back until we were at wits end or had good news, but we've been working a great deal on it since and as it happens, they're getting better.  Long way to go yet, but they're MUCH better than even a couple of weeks ago and I'm starting to see light at the end of the recall tunnel. 

Still think that woman is wrong for bringing an aggressive dog to what she knows is an established community dog club play time when she has no interest in working on socialising with her dogs.

That said, my time is better spent working with the boys than trying to fight the rights and wrongs with her.

I really do appreciate your help/advice.  Even when it's a pain in the arse sometimes.  xx

Just to labour the point where even further, everyone who has trouble with recall is guilty of calling their dog to see if it will come. That's fine, until the time that it doesn't. At that point, it learns two things. It doesn't have to,come, and you can't make it.

At the risk of sounding immodest, my dog always comes when I call her simply because she doesn't know not coming is an option.

It's really difficult to convey the principles of teaching reliable recall, and I'm afraid I'm failing miserably Dawn. I'm going to keep trying until you tell me to piss off though.

If they had ignored you and run off to play with the other dogs, it would just confirm to them that they don't have to come back until it suits them.

So do you mean using a long lead or an enclosed space for that training then Red? Or even one of those electric collars (banned in Wales but not the rest of UK).

Long lead when necessary Rod, but don't just tow the dog back to you when he ignores your call, instead use it to correct him, give it a jerk when he's moving away, and switch immediately to praise when he's coming back.

By far the best thing is to only call him when you KNOW he will COME, i.e. when his dinner is ready, when you're about to go out for a walk, or, (and this one is a doozy) when he's already coming to you anyway.

The worst possible time to call your dog during the training period is when he's distracted by something else or heading away from you. Which is exactly the time when most people do it.

Go out on to any common and you will hear people calling their dog's name over and over. What? I Do they think he didn't hear them the first time?

All they are doing is reassuring him that daddy/mummy is still nearby and teaching him that it's ok not to come when he's called.

Don't ever call your dog in training when it's obvious he doesn't want to come, instead, only call him when he does want to come. Aim for a 100% success rate.
