Cos they got no where to go

Would have thought that was pretty obvious

The whole point of an afterlife is to give people hope - particularly when you're a religious leader trying to get people to die for the cause; if there's no afterlife it's a lot harder to convince people to sacrifice theirs

But why care about not existing when you won't know that you don't exist?

I kind of like existing, not existing would suck.  Admittedly it wouldn't concern me after I died, but why shouldn't it concern me now?

That's a reason not to worry about it after you don't exist - not before

You will always exist in space-time.

This question has been occupying me for a while.

Why do atheists try to avoid death?
Because our time here is all we have so dying, although ultimatley unavoidable, is something to be put off as long as possible.

Why do atheists try to avoid death?

Surely the opposite question is more appropriate - if heaven is so great, why don't religious people kill themselves so they go to heaven today?

That's the crux of the issue. The instant death happens, it doesn't matter, so why put it off?

The minute you have the slightest problem, why not just step in front of a train. Problem solved.

Lol. It's a fair question, but it isn't an answer.

That makes sense if an indeterminate length of time of 'bad' is worse than everlasting nothingness

It doesn't make sense when bad is still better than nothing

But surely the term "better than nothing" is only relevant while you're alive.

And that is the state we currently find ourselves in...
