Tom, if you are at home tonight, the Nat Geo Channel, Ch 528, has THREE back to back hours of "Wild Atlantic", starting @ 7pm, followed by two hours of "Wild Danube".
I imagine you have to watch SCD, what with the girls & all that, but you can Sky+ it.
As Nature documentaries go, these take some beating, they are absolutely top notch.
"Atlantic" & "Danube" are, imo, the best of the "Wild" series, the Danube in particular is just stunning. This is Attenborough quality plus a bit, it really is.
I doubt I've ever seen better nature docs than these.
As it happens, I'm home alone tonight. The girls are going to a party in York.
I have seen all the Wild series, but I re watch them frequently. I particularly like the 'Wild Russia' one. The nomadic reindeer herders remind me so much of Gypsies pre mechanisation.
They have an interesting method of gelding the young male reindeer that they don't want to breed from iirc.

Am indulging myself with Wild Atlantic, alone at home & perfectly at peace with the world, though I could do without that plinky-plonky background music.
TV Producers are fixated with a fear of silence. I'm pretty sure most viewers would much prefer it.

Same goes for shop owners and restaurateurs. It really gets my goat.
There is a lovely park near me, complete with specimen trees, flower beds and duckpond. There is also a very nice bandstand. I've never seen a band play there, but in the roof there is a speaker that blares out inane, unrelenting muzak morning to night.
I wonder who decided to do that on behalf of everyone else? I would dearly love to shake him warmly by the neck.

If only there was a volume control mechanism...

If only there was a volume control mechanism that didn't affect the commentary,

I stumbled across this by accident. I don't really know how to introduce it to you.
It's a story of childhood cancer.
Mrs Red and I lost our only son to a brain tumour. This story mirrors ours so closely that it makes me shiver. I'm sure that countless thousands of other cancer parents would say the same thing.
Bereaved parents have an affinity with other bereaved parents. They tell each other their stories because they know they are talking to someone who understands. It's like some sort of terrible exclusive club that no one wants to join.
The Lady who wrote this is telling her story to the public at large. She asks that those who read it to pass it on, so I'm posting a link here.
The story is written in 31 short instalments. At the end of each one there is a link to the next. One or two of the links didn't work for me, but if that happens, just go back to the main page and click the link there.
