I now hear that the bubble has burst, & Henri is still in.

How great is t'internet, that a bunch of people an ocean away can hear about someone only one of them has met, find his back story & be wishing him success from a distance.

WW2 image of the day

I would love to know the story behind that picture.

Ration supply interrupted?

Love seagulls although being from one of the most inland places in britain i must admit i struggle with different id on them. Think this is a herring gull though. Make a great noise dont you think? Clever buggers too.

Henry Orenstein was featured in Ghosts At The Table, Des Wilson's very readable book about the history of Poker. The subtitle of 'Riverboat Gamblers, Texas Rounders, Internet Gamers, and the Living Legends Who Made Poker What It Is Today' is a good summary IMO.
He holds the patents for Transformers as well as for the Hole-Cam, or rather for the US rights for all devices which 'detect and display hole cards in poker games'. Pretty smart to cover all devices given that the RFID wasn't around back then.

Speaking of bird noises, we have a resident clattering of jackdaws. They are mind bogglingly clever, but they sound just like a group of petulant children.

That jackdaw noise is a bit spooky IMO. now they are REALLY clever birds as are the majority of corvids. Although its not so clever if you find a dead one in your fireplace of your spare room and its 10.000 fly mates! Thats what happened at my sisters place this week. A real nasty infestation.

Speaking of corvids and without googling can you name all SEVEN UK species of the family?

Where there's rook, there's crow, where there's crows, there's rooks.

I should get these, I'm a crow aficionado.

Jackdaw. Rook. Jay. Magpie. Raven.

Do Hooded  and Carrion Crow count as two?  If so I've got em all. If not tell me and I'll have another think.

I am counting crows (pardon the pun) as one. Carrion crows are just crows but carrion crow gives them their full name. Hooded crows are different type of crow so i guess there is an argument that there are 8 species.  I still only counted as one of the seven. So you have got 6. I'd be chuffed if you got the seventh.

Crow
Jackdaw
Rook
Jay
Magpie
Raven
