just catching up. great family pic.

Thanks Cos.

How are your lot, and when did you last see them?

I seem to recall you saying something about missing your little sister.

Also, how are things in Thailand what with the unrest, curfews and all that?

Hey Tom,

Sorry for the slow reply. I am in England at the moment but go back to Thailand tomorrow. I've been back for 10 weeks now and not done a huge deal but spent lots of time with family, which has been perfect. I haven't been back to the UK in 2 years and in that time my sister has gone from little girl to young woman.

She got 13 A*'s in her GCSEs last year so everyone's incredibly proud of her. No-one more so than me. I bought her a laptop today for when she goes off to Uni next year which is the butt of a lot of stress for her at the moment. Her school wants her to apply to Oxbridge and whilst she is keen to go elsewhere she feels like the might be missing a huge opportunity there. To add to that she just doesn't know what she wants to study or what career path she wants to go down.

My grandma who was like a 2nd mum to me until I was about 7 (we used to live with my nan until then) is now much older and sadly her health has taken a turn for the worse in the last 2 years. I think I will have to make UK visits more frequent.

At the moment the military takeover, whilst initially met with a lot of silent scepticism has quickly become really quite popular. They have made a lot of great changes to combat the corruption that goes on. Thailand really is incredibly corrupt.

The one bad thing that affects me is that they seemed to be taking a stronger stance on immigration. Understandably national security has to be their number 1 concern and there are a lot of people in Thailand just doing whatever they want, including those working illegally. Whilst I 'work' there I am not taking any Thai job but there are several who are, not paying taxes etc and so the army have started turning away people who are doing their visa runs by crossing the border and turning back. Often what I would do is fly to KL, wait a few hours in the airport and fly straight back into thailand. Trigger another 3 months stay in the country. Let's see what happens.

Writing that kind of made me want to keep my diary going....

Cos if your sister would like to talk to me about Oxbridge (good and bad, and Cambridge specifically) she would be more than welcome. Sure Tal would say the same and could offer a varied, though similarly valid, perspective.

PMs welcome any time.

thanks mate, will pm you!

Thanks Rich.

I don't know if you noticed, but there's a pretty amazing story behind this pic.

Bureau of Land Management cave specialist Bryan McKenzie rappels into Natural Trap Cave in north-central Wyoming during a cleanup expedition. The cave holds the remains of tens of thousands of animals, including many now-extinct species from the late Pleistocene period tens of thousands of years ago. Starting July 28, 2014, scientists plan to venture back into the cave and resume digging for the first time in more than 30 years.Picture: AP Photo/Bureau of Land Management

That tank would be a welcome sight in the City to flatten the roads. Drove around there over the weekend and they are all in shocking condition.

I went shopping for a new jacket yesterday.

Apparently, due to the vagaries of fashion, they now only come in size skinny, or extra skinny.

Thankfully, after hours of slogging around, I finally managed to find this at one of the more exclusive stores.

Managed to get an appointment at my local salon today. The facilities are a bit basic but the prices are good and I quite fancy the stylist.

Are you on a "Pear Shaped" diet, or did it just go that way, Tom?
