Evening Tom,

Pete has just finished watching Breaking Bad. He watched it after I mentioned that you said something along the lines of seriously envying anyone who hadn't yet watched it.

He thoroughly enjoyed it and asked me to say a big thank you and also to ask if there is anything else you would describe as unmissable ?

xx

I'll have a think but to be honest, Breaking Bad is a tough act to follow.

Has he seen Fargo season 1 ?

Yes he has an he really enjoyed that too.

It was exposed as a fake not long after it was first posted.  Was some students showing off their film making skills.  Bird is computer generated or similar.

If you've never bought a record, I've made a hideous misread and you can save yourself an hour. You won't enjoy it.

Oh my gawd! A valuable contributor and I've scared him off.

Wait, don't go. Let's talk about it anyway. I might even grow to like Danny Baker.. a bit.

Just for clarity, I'm a music lover and would have bought records if I could, but back in the day we had nowhere to store a record playing device and no electricity to power one.

I did listen to the wireless a lot though, and fitted 8 track cassette players in to lorries, with hilarious results.

Is the record buying part essential?

There's a series of three episodes discussing their favourite albums. This one is about R&B, so everything from Tamla Motown to Gil Scott Heron to Prince. There's a rock one and a pop one, too. All on Youtube.

Try five minutes of it and see how you go, but don't persevere if it doesn't appeal, because you'll have the complete picture of it from that.

No biggie either way.

Watched it and enjoyed it in spite of myself, so good shout.

Aurora Sharnfordarlis.

Saw this in the sky tonight at about 17:30. Lots of unusual colours swirling around. It lasted about 15 minutes.

Any ideas?

Tal?

I know what causes the aurorae: it's charged particles from solar ejections interacting with the Earth's magnetic field. We can get one this far down every now and then.

Not sure whether that's what this is, though. Quite possible.

That's great!

I've always wanted to see aurora but I didn't think I ever would.

If Mohamed won't go to the mountain....

We saw this earlier, it was as the sun was going down.  I think it is more likely this https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloud_iridescence

I don't think you can see the Northern Lights when it is daylight.  It has to pretty dark.

I can see a pattern developing.

It is still very special, just different.  The kids were suitably impressed with the rainbow clouds.  Loads of pictures on Twitter right now if you Google cloud iridescence.
